Future FB Scheduling- H/H with Western Kentucky - CliftonAve - 08-22-2018 11:47 AM

In 2025 and 2026, per Brett McMurphy. Easy road trip for both fan bases.

This is a good series. Whether UC is playing conference games in the AAC or the ACC by then, an easy drive and a nice weekend heading down the Bourbon Trail or to the Corvette Museum along with some Bearcat football.

liking the 2025 slate. : )

I didn't love it when I saw this pop up, but I like it quite a bit now in context with our other games that year. It's certainly winnable, and it's a short road trip (as others have mentioned).

Seems like we are moving away from playing FCS schools. Two seasons already full and a couple more with 3/4 dates filled by FBS schools this far.

In addition Bohn recently referenced a home and home with Boston college in the works and a marquee one and done road game in 2021. So stay tuned.

2021 is a bad year to do a marquee one and done road game unless we move another game around. We need another home game that year. Be nice if that BC series was at UC 2021 then at BC 2022.

Looking at our schedule we need to find home games in 2020 and 2021.

Boston College is already full in both 2020 & 2022, and has 2 road games already in 2021. So I doubt the H-H, if it happens, would be in the 2020-2022 period.

http://www.fbschedules.com/ncaa/acc/boston-college-eagles.php

2023 in Boston and 2024 in Cincinnati makes more sense (for both schools).

If that happens, that could then set up a H-H in either (1) 2022-2023 (2022 away, 2023 in Cincinnati) or (2) 2020 & 2022 (2020 home, 2022 away). The negative in both cases is it's only 5 home games in 2022 (plus the "road" game against Miami University downtown).

You are right: a home game is definitely needed for 2020. An FCS team isn't really good enough - the fans deserve better than OOC home games of FCS and WMU.

Maybe UC can take the money from the road game and buy out Ohio to flip it to home game. That would give UC a solid home schedule in 2021

Nothing says big time like playing at Bowling Green in front of as many as 22,000.

Could it be a candidate for Game Day?

And miss out on some O'Betty's Red Hot, or Big Mama's Burritos?

Bearcats have a lot more open dates than they think. Interesting that all the P5 home-and-homes are AWAY first. And Bohn thinks he can sell this crap to the fans. These are just road BUY games dressed up for UC to fake the fans out.

Since 2014 most the teams you think will "buy us out" have all played multiple non P5 schools away from home

Pitt: UCF and Akron
Indiana: FIU and BGSU
Boise: Louisiana and UCONN
UCLA: Memphis and UNLV
Nebraska: Fresno State

I do think that Nebraska will end up buying us out but I am pretty confident that most these teams will remain on the schedule, especially Pitt and Indiana. UC provides an away game that is easy to travel to for both schools, and neither school has enough pull to demand home games from all teams.

RE: Future FB Scheduling- H/H with Western Kentucky - OKIcat - 08-24-2018 07:28 AM

Ohio State is the only school that I can recall "buying out" a game at UC in the recent past. Maybe their brush with disaster at PBS in Tressel's national championship season was enough to convince them never to leave Cowtown for an Ohio opponent.

Each school used its own scheduling philosophy when considering a game in Cincinnati as part of a home and home series. I don't expect a unilateral withdrawal.

Get your 2025 season tickets now! 1) Our biggest rivalry game Miami 2) The G5 Cinderella loved by the media Boise 3) One of the more historic programs Nebraska. Man I hope that stays in tac and the cats are back to be relevant again

All things are relative.

Compared to playing an FCS cupcake every year - I like this move. An easily driveable road trip game, and an opponent that might bring a few fans into Nippert (and encourage our fans to make noise.)

My real preference is more readily driveable P5 home and homes. Tough to make that happen. The list is not that long. (Pitt, WVU, Louserville, UK, Vandy, Illinois, Northwestern, Purdue, Indiana)

I realize that the AD is looking at revenue and likes to put Bearcat butts in Nippert. And they need to balance the schedule. Not necessarily an easy job.

I would add Tennessee, Michigan, and Michigan State to that list - and the game that will never happen against Notre Dame.

Non P6 games to be scheduled, should include (and yes, I know we already have some of these on our schedule):
- Toledo (H/H)
- Ohio (H/H)
- WKU (H/H) - why no basketball for this one?
- WMU/CMU (H/H)
- MTSU (H, plus a H-H for basketball)

You think not having any of those games on the schedule is for a lack of trying (we do have Pitt and Indiana on the future schedule)? A lot of those schools deliberately do not schedule us.

Northwestern, Vandy and Purdue are within arms length, and combined we've only played those schools 5 times in FB (2-Vandy, 3-Purdue) and another hand full of times combined in hoops in over 125 years -- if not for post season play we would have played them even less frequently.

UL and WVU definitely wants separation from us. I've heard multiple coaches say UC has reached out to them and been told no thanks.
