Net Neutrality ... our first case study - georgia_tech_swagger - 08-22-2018 08:42 AM Quote:Verizon throttled fire department’s “unlimited” data during Calif. wildfire This is the kind of **** that will cause it to be a valid public policy. If you're on the right and you don't want net neutrality, then you should be for burning Verizon a new regulatory ***hole very loudly and very publicly right now. https://arstechnica.com/tech-policy/2018/08/verizon-throttled-fire-departments-unlimited-data-during-calif-wildfire/ RE: Net Neutrality ... our first case study - Marc Mensa - 08-22-2018 08:53 AM The information superhighway should be a public utility available equally to all. How about the major social media outlets on the internet? RE: Net Neutrality ... our first case study - stinkfist - 08-22-2018 09:00 AM that's no different than the gouging that occurred after Katrina..... do the oil companies need to become a public utility? capitalism.....she's a funny bird, eh? RE: Net Neutrality ... our first case study - Dasville - 08-22-2018 09:34 AM If left to their own devices, Verizon would have no horizon. The information superhighway should be like any other service, if you want something more than the basic, you PAY FOR IT. UPS, ground is one charge, RED is MORE. I have absolutely no problem with the service providers saying that if you want more bandwidth or faster service, you pay for it. Social media outlets are private business on the information superhighway. RE: Net Neutrality ... our first case study - Dasville - 08-22-2018 10:07 AM The odds of being attacked by a shark are greatly reduced if you don’t get in the water. Mathematics say there is little difference between salt water and fresh water. RE: Net Neutrality ... our first case study - georgia_tech_swagger - 08-22-2018 10:43 AM Almost 15 posts in and nobody has pointed out the inherent legal lie that is "unlimited" data plans. Unlimited unlimited unlimited (size 4pt: LTE speeds until (small number of GB) then slower data (3G for a while if your carrier is "generous") like 2G/Edge, which isn't even enough for navigational data if you have cached maps even. In a case like this when dealing with emergency services, I'm sure deals can be made to make sure they have the data if necessary. Other than that, let the market decide. Technically, it's still unlimited data, it's the speed of that data that changes after a certain amount. Legally I don't think that would be an issue. It's kind of dirty pool, but not illegal.
