Previously, Maher came to the defense of Laura Ingraham after David Hogg proposed a boycott of her show after Hogg claimed the Fox News host bullied him. Maher defended Ingraham's right to have a show and condemned the boycott, calling it the “modern way of cutting off free speech.”
Now, Maher defended Alex Jones' right to free speech. Jones was removed from almost every social media platform after a crackdown on “hate speech” and Jones' conspiracy theories.
Alex Jones, who is not my friend and tells crazy lies about me, is thrown off Twitter and Facebook and a few of the platforms. [Audiance cheers]. Well, if you're a liberal, you're supposed to be for free speech. That's free speech for the speech you hate. That's what free speech means. We're losing the thread of the concepts that are important to this country. If you care about the real America **** or you don't. And if you do, it goes for every side. I don't like Alex Jones, but Alex Jones gets to speak. Everybody gets to speak. ”

I cringed hard at the woman who thanked God. People that think like that are so far gone, it's not even funny. She legitimately thinks she "won" something by Jones being de-platformed.

I saw the clip on youtube. I agree with him. As the old saying goes, a broken clock is right twice a day.
He's the old school liberal, not one of these socio-facist new school libs.
As an old school liberal, he understands the importance of free speech. I also think he understands that society & people are like a pendulum, the people passing judgement on what constitutes "accepted speech" could find themselves on the other end of the "banned speech" argument in no time.
As hard as it is to swallow, protecting the speech of the people you completely disagree with protects YOUR speech, which is something Maher gets, but that smug "thank God" woman doesn't.
BTW, hey lady, it's the height of arrogance to think that YOUR opinion matters and those you disagree with do not. With any luck, that pendulum will come back to bit her in the backside.

I agree. Maher is an unabashed leftie, but he’s not afraid to call out his own side. He’s taken a lot of flack from liberals for his views on radical Islam, but he’s hasn’t backed off them.
