This Is Not a 'Trump-Free Zone': Chicago Protesters Demand Ouster of Rahm Emanuel - shere khan - 08-03-2018 03:59 PM

State Rep. La Shawn Ford, a Democrat who represents the West Side of Chicago, called on President Trump to help the city.

"Not everyone believes Chicago is a Trump-free zone. If he's serious about helping the people ... I accept his help. We can't turn any help away," said Ford, adding that seniors and children need to have safe streets and federal authorities need to help the local police.

If Trump can find a way to fix some of Chicago's worst problems, he might be able to flip Illinois RED once again.

It's very telling when a Chicago DEM says Rat Rahm Job can't get it done (which IMO is the death knell) and turns to the POTUS who he's seen GET STUFF DONE. I would be shocked if the POTUS does not capitalize on this on some level .

RE: This Is Not a 'Trump-Free Zone': Chicago Protesters Demand Ouster of Rahm Emanuel - Tom in Lazybrook - 08-03-2018 04:17 PM

Rahm and the rest of the Chicago pols are truly despised by the people. There's no such thing as an open election there (current holders always resign and then appoint their successors) and there's retribution for not backing the winner, especially in Aldermanic districts.

Here's how it should be reformed

1) Dramatically curtail the Aldermen's power. Currently, they basically can shut down any business or delay any developent, for basically no reason. Establish a city wide, professional - non patronage, permits office, and an elected zoning commission. Have the requirements be set by broad zones, not by aldermanic districts to remove the power from the Aldermen.

2) End the process of appointments to elected office. In the event of a vacancy, the seat shall remain vacant until a special election is held.

3) Serious police reform. The cops on one hand are brutal in some areas, but permit open crime zones in others. The though process is that if they shut down crime in area A, it will just move to area B. So they let crime occur in area A. I own a condo in Chicago. For about a decade, there was a group of drug dealers openly peddling smack on the corner of my block, directly in front of an elementary school and a block from the El. Daytime, nightime, all the time. And my neighborhood is not that bad of an area (Blogovich lived two blocks away and Loyola of Chicago is 4 blocks away). Very few, rich or poor, black or white, have much confidence or trust in CPD.

4) Serious prosecutorial reform. Another problem is that the DA frequently refuses to prosecute people. There was a vagrant who was arrested over 300 times in my neighborhood up there. In a 5 year period. Never charged with anything. Then she got violent.

Chicago though requires nuance to fix. Trump doesn't do nuance. So you've got one person asking for Trump's help basically to go after Rahm. The second Trump gets involved, all hell will break loose. No one trusts him, and why should they - Trump has shown nothing but contempt for the people of Chicago for years.

And no, Illinois has zero chance of going red. What you're seeing is a local politician looking to embarrass Rahm. The Dems wil romp in Illinois this year, Rauner will be replaced by a Dem, and Roskam will lose his suburban CD.

Chicago's political problems (and Illinois') aren't a Republican or Democratic issue. The same problems happened under GOP Administrations too. Its really a corruption issue.

Make Chicago Great Again. Trump needs to hold a rally. Democrats need to worry about getting thrown out, mich less re-elected.

Another Illinois issue. The kind of Republican that could actually carry Illinois consistently isn't someone like Bruce Rauner. It would be someone like Gov Ryan without the corruption. You can either fix the corruption or you can enact controversial ALEC sponsored legislation. Rauner chose door number 2. It was the wrong choice because the voters put him in office to fix door number 1.

That would be a very bad idea. There would be massive pushback from the population. Basically the State Rep can muster about 200 people to the Trump rally. Trump is HIGHLY unpopular there. There'd be a counterprotest in the hundreds of thousands. Trump is very thin skinned anyway. He ain't holding an open rally in Chicago.

How long before the tolerant left demands that Rep. Ford has to publicly apologize and fall on his sword for his blasphemy. I'll put the over/under at tomorrow, 5 pm. I'll take the under.

Is it intolerant for those that voted for Rep Ford hold him accountable for his open call for Trump's intervention, if that is not what they wanted?

Well, it doesn't rank up there with something as horrid as eating a chik-fil-a, but they can certainly hold him "accountable" for requesting help for that schithole. Do what they want, I guess. Enjoy! just duck...

He is a state rep, not on the radar.

I'd wager that there a whole lot of Trump supporters in Chicago. Sure it's a lib controlled city but there's Trump support there. You only hear about the squeaky wheel lefties there biatchin and making noise.

Politicians are always doing things that their constituents do no like. Kind of an American tradition.

Actually, you'll find out soon enough.

In 2016, Cook County (which is more conservative than Chicago) gave Trump 21 percent of the vote. Trump got 12 percent in the City. Much of that would be in a few pockets in the SW side of the city.

We can see exactly how much the GOP has gained by looking at the Gubernatorial results for Illinois' open seat this year. They'll be slightly higher than 12 percent, but then again, the GOP candidate isn't Trump. I suspect he'll draw about 12 percent in 2020. Its really hard to get below 12 percent. Trump got 10 percent of the vote in the 48th ward, where my condo is located. I don't vote there though. The condo is rented and I live and vote in Texas

http://www.chicagomag.com/city-life/November-2016/Chicago-Election-Results-President/ has a really cool map. If you;d like to see how Trump did in the African American community just click on some of the area south of downtown. My God, he was south of 5% on the South side. That Rep. is playing with fire. Trump got 10 percent in his district. I get it, he hates Rahm. Most people do. I think many people blame the GOP's love for the NRA (and one particular gun store, where many of the guns used in Chicago's crimes come from) as much - if not more - than Rahm for the problem with violence. But that's a dangerous game he's playing. Primaries happen.

Obviously there’s a lot of huge obstacles in the way of any GOP candidate winning Illinois — especially for President. They have a GOP Governor right now (Rauner) which is kind of incredible by itself. But he has proven to be a disaster and will almost definitely be voted out in November.

A Trump rally in Chicago would be awesome in lots of ways. So you can be sure that local officials will do everything they can to make sure it doesn’t happen. Very little happens in that part of the world without the help of “local officials.”

A Trump rally in Chicago would have terrible optics. It would have more protesters outside than inside. And his supporters would have to be bussed in from Rockford and downstate. Trump has virtually zero supporters in the City of Chicago. Go to the link I posted. Trump is thin skinned and too chickensh*t to face his opponents. He ain't coming to Chicago because the protesters wouldn't be hidden away there.

Foolish. I'm not sure what you mean by a GOP administration. Obviously, in modern times, there never has been a Republican mayor of Chicago.

For all but two of the last 35 years, the Dems have controlled the state House, with Madigan as Speaker. They've controlled the Senate for 25 of the last 35 years. The Republicans elected to governor during that time have all been moderate/liberal.

Chicago/Illinois have been under the control of the Democrats for decades.

The Chicago Democrats get along with the state Democrats just fine. The City is the way it is because of Democrat ideals and administration. It can't be pinned on anyone else.

Mike Madigan has bankrupted the state, and Richie Daley bankrupted the City. Now, it is all falling apart.
