2018: Fall Camp Reports - Side Show Joe - 08-03-2018 02:27 PM

As teams from around C-USA begin to report for practice, I thought it would be nice to have thread where fans can post updates from their program's camps. It will be a nice way to keep up with which players are winning position battles. See if any new playmakers are emerging. It is also an easy way to keep up with injuries. I look forward to reading articles and seeing footage from all of the camps. 04-cheers

Here is a quick early report from the first day of the North Texas fall camp.

Here is an interview with Littrell. Kind of hard to hear. It was windy.

Alex Thomson is legit. Looked really good today. Crisp, accurate throws,, good pocket presence, movement, and has speed as well. Defense was without many key players but also looked really good, speed everywhere on the field and were swarming the QB,, multiple blitz packages were encouraging. Haven't been this excited since Cato's senior year. Thomson stays healthy, and it's Marshall's division to lose.

CIT, I know you will be glad to know our six star wide receiver showed up ready to go....

I'm pretty amped up for this season as well. Looks like the new staff additions/promotions are a breath of fresh air. I'm also glad to hear that the report of Alex reinjuring his shoulder is nothing but a bunch of bahooey.

RE: 2018: Fall Camp Reports - AustinFromUNT - 08-04-2018 12:56 PM

Fun Fact: 9 of Marshall’s 2018 recruits won’t be able to contribute this year. 3 of them were no-shows & 6 did not qualify. Only 2 of Marshall’s top 10 recruits from 2018 both showed up & qualified.

More of a fun fact: Even with you as one of the biggest windbags on this board, UNT still won't win CUSA. Why don't you f #%+ off and quit trying to cause problems in every post?

I don't think you'll beat us at home, but it could certainly could happen. I don't doubt for one second that it couldn't. But I can also see us tripping up on the road twice to give you all the east crown. That's why we play the games. 04-cheers

Yikes. Is this true? It looks like FIU got all but two of the 2018 signees in for fall camp. The two not listed on the roster are Joshua Sanders (DE/LB) and Zahir Turner (WR). Thankfully, those are not positions of need at this time. I'm thrilled to see all the JUCO guys on campus, as well as most of the top recruits.

Btw, FIU also added a grad transfer from Texas, Edwin Freeman, to the roster. He will be eligible to play this year. Freeman was a former ESPN 300 and consensus 4-star recruit out of high school. He battled injuries through much of his Texas career. Hoping he can stay healthy and play a big role for FIU this year.

We have some high quality kids playing this fall who were sitting out last fall. Not concerned. I’d worry about NT if I were you.

Interesting how some staff’s load up on Juco and Grad transfers and some try to get the 4 year kids through the system. Not sure why our staff recruits very few Juco guys each year.

The Grad transfer from Wagner, lets see how does against legit FBS competition. He might have some coaches that praise him but game time against much better competition will be the true test. The QB's that look great in practice is a mile long

RE: 2018: Fall Camp Reports - 12thmonarch - 08-04-2018 04:19 PM

ODU camp will kick off on Monday. Defense looks fine but Offense is where we have real question marks at. Has Steven Williams matured over summer and will he be able to lead this team mentally and physcially? OL needs to step up and protect the young QB or at least give him sometime in the pocket, WR's need to run the routes, catch the ball and hold on to it unlike last season and not make FB look like a bounce ball. I think we are good at RB but how good we have to see. For some reason our TE's were always injured so we have to see what happens this time around. Bobby Wilder better get this team ready if not it will be a long season.

Pretty sure our defense is legit fbs competition.

We played Wagner a couple years back, I don’t remember him making much noise against Rice.

I guess technically we’ll still have to wait and see how we does against *legit* FBS competition though 03-wink

Meanwhile on South Main, Rice has six QB’s in practice. Here’s a note on that competition...

Holtz sounds more confident in this Tech team than any he has had at Louisiana Tech. Claims he has more depth and experience in this LA Tech team than in any previous.

Fun fact, if you pay attention to our recruiting, that happens every year. The only one that hurts is Webb, who decided he wants to run track at Ole Miss and give up football. As you will notice, two of the players listed as top 5 new players in the article you linked are actually non qualifiers from the 2017 class, one was a Michigan State commit and the other was a NC State commit until grades changed their path. Next year we will have kids not qualify, but the ones that didn't qualify this year will be ready to go in 2019.
