Walking away from a nice salary, wow. This guy was appointed to that position just 2 years ago. $ 286,000.00/year.

VP's of development tend to make a quarter mil these days.
The big problem with him was that Dunn appointed him because he was close with a board member. Guy had no development/alumni experience, and did not deserve that job. Just another example of Dunn's terrible leadership in the last few years.

Dunn pulled a dummy. For a position with that high a salary we should have had a nation-wide search from the beginning. As it is this guy shamed himself and Dunn by association-I'm assuming since he made no comment on his dismissal the evidence of misconduct was pretty compelling.
What a jerk.
President Montgomery better get his replacement right, this hire right out of the gate with his new Presidency will accent his Administration for years to come.

If he does his job effectively that is not a lot to be paying someone in that position. WMU has historically NOT been the recipient of much Alumni financial donations. That hire was intended to do something about that in these times of decreasing State financial support.
It's very unfortunate that WMU pulled a boner with this hire, with 2 years under his belt already that's nearly $ 600,000.00 wasted. Plus, I'm sure he got an excellent severance package since he was allowed to resign (Why doesn't someone at The Western Herald do some real investigative journalism for a change and find that out?). We need to get it right the second time, no more excuses.

Not just one board member, if you read between the lines of when he was hired.
And yes he did not have the experience-resume for the job.
Nor apparently the character-personal qualities.
broncofan1 a lot of alumni think Dunn was coasting to retirement his last few years and not exerting much actual leadership.

When hired Tim Terrentine was an outstanding hire. Twice a Bronco alumni who bleeds Brown & Gold with proven track record of leadership.
After Tim was hired Many WMU meetings & events were a lot more fun with his leadership & charisma.

All joking aside, this is quite a black eye for WMU. An exceptionally high-paying position like that was allotted, without a national search, on the basis of recommendations from WMU Board member(s). Quite a waste of money.
Whichever Board member promoted this guy for that job should resign, on a point of honor. His/her bad judgement has cost the school and state of Michigan a substantial sum of money over something that never should have been allowed to happen. This is why the hiring process has become so removed from vested interests in most schools, to avoid this sort of thing. In this case it was badly mishandled.

Maybe to anyone outside campus, but he was not well received internally because he was appointed. There should have been a national search for a qualified leader.
Plenty of Broncos bleed brown and gold, it doesn't mean they can just step into a world they don't understand and lead others.

Absolutely. He was an absentee president for at least the last 2 years. WMU suffered from his lack of decision-making. That, and many decisions he should have been making were left to underlings with their own aspirations in mind (not WMU's).
Make no mistake, Montgomery has taken over a mess of a situation.
