Quote:On Tuesday, ABC announced Brian Ross would resign after more than two decades at the network.

Ross returned to the network in January after ABC suspended him over a report that President Donald Trump told former national security adviser Michael Flynn to reach out to Russian officials during the 2016 campaign.

The report added to suspicion surrounding Trump's connections with Russia as well as whether or not the campaign colluded on the 2016 presidential election with the Russian government. The news not only lit up social media, it also seemed to tank the stock market:

But it's unclear whether or not that factored into Ross's decision to resign. After Ross' botched report, he returned to the network but worked on longer-term projects and wasn't allowed to cover the president or Russia.

While ABC and Ross both heaped praise on each other while announcing the resignation, neither mentioned the report about Flynn.

“In their long careers here, Brian, Rhonda and their team have been recognized with nearly every prestigious award in our business,” the network said of Ross and his producer Rhonda Schwartz, who also resigned.
