They are currently 4th in the B1G for recruiting. It’s going to be tough for them to get by Wisconsin. But I think any regime realistically needs 3-4 years to get the systems in place and the players up to speed to fit. https://247sports.com/Season/2019-Football/CompositeTeamRankings?Conference=Big-Ten

They are actually 2nd to last in average star ranking though which won't let them compete with BIG East. I think PJs system requires requires higher caliber athletes vs his competition. He's not going to beat you with Xs and O's.

They still have to fight their way out of their own division. Wisconsin is not going anywhere, Northwestern and Iowa will be in the rotation. Frost will bring Nebraska up to respectability. Illinois, Purdue and Minnesota will get a 4* or two but continue to have trouble attracting talent as long as they get their teeth knocked in perennially.

But there in lies PJs out, I’ve said before, it’s an ideal situation. He came into a program coming through the mess from previous regime. That will buy him 2-3 years. But the standard at Minnesota has not been a B1G championship. Vying for a division 1 in 10 years is what they are conditioned to. Not as bad as our Leos but similar.

As long as Minnesota can beat the sleaze whores in Ann Arbor and East Lansing periodically, I am happy.

Any UM or MSU loss - to anybody - is a WMU win!

With Frost at the helm, Nebraska will leapfrog Northwestern and Iowa, and it won't take long for him to compete with Wisconsin for Big 10 West titles. His offense will be a shock to the Big 10 once he gets his recruits in there. PJ will have no chance against Frost.

Why? We compete at a totally different level. So if OSU beats MSU or M, somehow WMU benefits. Don’t understand the logic. We don’t compete with either school for athletes (a rare exception or two noted)

RE: Early Big Ten team rankings - MajorHoople - 06-28-2018 07:38 AM

Minnesota got whizzed past by Jeff Brohm and PU last year.

Going to be a tough battle for the Goofers just to get into West's top four, especially until they solve their QB issue.

We are all Division I programs. We ABSOLUTELY are NOT on a "different level."

It's not 1972 anymore. WMU is not Kalamazoo College, or Ferris State.

Want to tell the 2016 football Broncos, who had a better Pig10 record than Michigan State, they are on "different level."

Want to tell the Bronco hockey team that won the Great Lakes Invitational a few years back (that included BOTH Michigan AND MSU) they are on a "different level?"

Want to tell the 2009 CMU football team that beat MSU (dominated Sparty in almost every statistical category) that it was on a "different level?"

Want to tell the Toledo team that beat Arkansas that it was on a "different level?"

Want to tell the UCF team that went undefeated last season, beating Auburn in a New Years Day bowl game, that was on a "different level?" No Gator fans allowed at that school.

Want to tell Darius Phillips he is on a "different level" after he was the best player on the field - for either team - in East Lansing a year ago?

Want to tell WMU grads not to apply, or compete for jobs against Michigan and Michigan State grads because they are on a "different level?"

Anytime WMU's over-hyped, over-rated, and over-priced D-I COMPETITORS in the State of Michigan lose, it is GOOD for WMU. Anytime the Pig10 loses in non-conference games, it is GOOD for the MAC and WMU.

They are WMU's competition. They also have a different value/ethics system (pretty much non-existent, google Larry Nassar for proof) than we do.

There is no green & white or maize & blue in a Western Michigan University degree. For that I am thankful.

Go Broncos!

Bingo
PJ just can't get the QB thing down. His QB deflection list from Minny is closing in on his WMU efforts. Apparently, the West Coast transfer who was the answer didn't fall for the RTB mantra. It would be difficult to bring in a transfer who has been in a couple programs and ask him to surrender to the RTB march. 03-confused03-confused03-confused

Gopher fans aren't waiting until PJs 5th-6th year for results. He inherited a 9 win program and will have his hands full winning 5-6 games this season.

About as funny as the annual QB transfer to start at Michigan. Never would have thought Harbaugh would be dumpster diving every spring after he got and groomed Luck while at Stanford.

RE: Early Big Ten team rankings - Hoekjeness - 06-28-2018 10:45 AM

Yeah, what a terrible job he did developing Zach Terrell and replacing him with current starter Jon Wassink. 03-drunk

RE: Early Big Ten team rankings - WMUPorter - 06-28-2018 11:01 AM

So the article says that Peej only has one scholarship QB on the roster after 2 others transferred. Is it Tanner Morgan, one time WMU commit? If so, I am really happy Morgan decided to follow Peej to Minnesota so that he at least has one quarterback on the roster.

He did do a fabulous job wasting a year of development on wassink by playing Terrell deep into well established leads... PJ better be thanking the football gods above that Terrell didn’t get injured late in those games...

RE: Early Big Ten team rankings - Bronco'14 - 07-01-2018 09:52 AM

It will take time for PJ to turn it around. Remember it took him a few years to get us to the Cotton Bowl. He's killing it in recruiting, just like he was doing for us and people said 'PJ won't get us to a New Years Bowl.'

All it takes is for him to knock off Wisconsin once and the power might start to shift to Minnesota.

(I do know their fans are upset though because talent-wise and record-wise he didn't inherit the mess like he did here)

This definitely annoyed me about him. Never made much sense because the risk wasn't worth it. But a lot of coaches do it. Leave guys in when fans think they should be on the bench. It's not like at the time those games were going PJ was thinking....Haha can't wait to screw WMU up in the future by leaving them with inexperienced QB's. Because if you think that, then you're just being flat out ridiculous.

RE: Early Big Ten team rankings - MajorHoople - 07-01-2018 01:52 PM

Highly unlikely Minnesota makes a big jump in West Division standings this year.

Will probably take Fleck all of his first contract to get anywhere near Division championship.
