Good payday for CMU.

However, if Enos stays at Alabama long enough for this game, the Tide should be so screwed-up that CMU may actually have a chance.

It's ridiculous that programs with pedigree of an Alabama are playing MAC schools.

And yes I know NIU beat the Tide once upon a time. Bama wasn't Bama then.

RE: CMU @ Alabama?! - Hoekjeness - 06-07-2018 06:42 AM

lol I can't wait to watch this massacre.

Miami, LSU, and Alabama? What is this AD thinking? Goes against what the MAC as a conference is trying to do also.

One thing I am extremely jealous of though: "All six of CMU’s home games are on Saturdays"

Well, it is a step-up from Mercer, which Alabama hosted last fall...

Talk about blood money...

In defense of CMU, we all thought the same thing when our game against USC was announced. We played the Trojans tough well into the 4th quarter.

It is more likely this game will be another 82-6 Florida-type loss for CMU, but you never know.

RE: CMU @ Alabama?! - brovol - 06-07-2018 09:03 AM

Why is this any different than many "high pedigree program" games we have played for years, and every other MAC or G5 school has played? Every power program loads up on these games. Actually, the MAC teams have a tendency to make these games interesting. Our USC game last year was particularly tough with the travel; which I still believe made us less competitive against MSU the following week.

Why is it ridiculous? We're either D1 or we're not.

You're being disingenuous. No MAC team is close to Alabama's (or other top-tier P5's) level.

RE: CMU @ Alabama?! - wmutkelaw - 06-07-2018 09:39 AM

Major, do you think any MAC team (in the recent past) has ever been close to the top tier P5 teams?

RE: CMU @ Alabama?! - GRBRONCO - 06-07-2018 09:39 AM

So we shouldn't play them? Whats more ridiculous, playing a team like Alabama or having a team like Wagner visit?

Of course not, but I'm still not seeing your point. If we're going to play FBS football I don't see why we should be "off limits" for scheduling.

Kinda depends on your definition of "top tier" I guess, but I think both NIU and WMU competed fairly well against highly ranked P5s in their NY6 bowls.

Why is WMU playing USC, Notre Dame, Michigan or MSU? You can't open up the closed world of top P5 without some change. UCF would have hung around with Alabama last fall if given the chance.

Saban is a hypocrite. He is all over Alabama radio stating P5 should only play P5 period. Let him then, he won't go undefeated and he risks a two loss season. WMU usually has a tougher non conference slate than Bama.

Not talking about one-year wonders. Talking about programs that consistently achieve at the highest level of CFB because they have the desire and wherewithal to do so.

You forgot Ohio State.

For the money, obviously.

Secondarily for recruiting.

RE: CMU @ Alabama?! - Hoekjeness - 06-07-2018 10:30 AM

Easy argument to make for programs like Michigan, MSU, Notre Dame, Ohio St... because it's an easy road game for our fan base to get to.

USC was an anomaly in my book because of the alumni connection, an awesome experience of playing at an iconic venue, playing in a large market (LA), and it also provided a great outlet for WMU alums on the west coast that aren't necessarily able to get back to Kalamazoo regularly to see us play. That situation was unique for a wide variety of reasons.

Alabama basically has none of those things. Any SEC team, really...

I think if you are going to go after a true blue-blood program, it has to make a lot of sense for a variety of reasons. Besides the prestige of it being "Alabama"... why else would we (or any MAC team) want that game?

Maybe it's just me...

$1.75M is honestly a perfectly good reason to me given the shortfalls MAC teams run.

Not a fan of bringing in nondescript FCS teams like Wagner. There are much better options geographically (Youngstown State, Illinois State, etc.).

I think we should play mid-to lower-tier P5s that we have a chance of beating and get a decent payout.

Remember we're a program that has never beaten Purdue or Indiana.

RE: CMU @ Alabama?! - GRBRONCO - 06-07-2018 11:20 AM

I don't know, we received way more publicity/media exposure playing at USC than we ever would playing Indiana. It would be nice if we could get Indiana/Northwestern/Purdue types to do a 2 or 3 for 1 to get them to Waldo though.
