SDSU Construction Update Video

Flyover video shows seats being added as well as a good view of the very vertical homeside stands. This stadium will only have 35k seats, 100% seatback + SRO (flex to 40k or perm expand to 55k). This is going to be one of a kind with unique sections like the Pier above the south endzone and Mesa above the north endzone. In addition SDSU has already inked several tenants which will generate revenue for the school year around. Basically its a game changer.

Quote:John H. Ruiz, a former UM student and founder of Medicare Secondary Player Recovery, has proposed a new stadium for the Hurricanes at Tropical Park, which is just three miles from the university.

“The Orange Bowl had this feel to it that has never been replicated at Hard Rock,” Ruiz told student newspaper The Miami Hurricane. “You were close to the field, you would be able to feel the game, you know? That’s the way we want to put it together here.”

Ruiz has proposed a new venue for the Hurricanes called LifeWallet Stadium, which would form part of the wider LifeWallet Park development. Tropical Park, which currently has a horse racing track, baseball fields and other sports facilities, would undergo significant renovation work if the LifeWallet Park plans are given the green light.

The Miami Hurricane reports that Ruiz would maintain many of the facilities currently located at Tropical Park. Ruiz also plans on adding more sports facilities.

Any plan to renovate Tropical Park would have to be approved by local residents through a county-wide referendum and Ruiz feels the proposal would receive the backing of the public. “I don’t think the county would vote against having a much-renewed public park with state-of-the-art technology,” he said.

HKS Architects is reportedly drawing up plans for the new stadium, with designs set to be released in the coming weeks.

Definitely a game changer for SDSU. Look great. Not sure how I feel about the dock. What if people drop stuff on the fans below?

I wasn't quite sure the dock overhung the seats, but at 2:41 it shows that it does. Another problem could be lawyers up their talking loudly, drowning out the crowd. Fortunately they will be mostly turned away from the action.

SDSU is showing how to get it done. Good for them. Meanwhile in Honolulu, the old Aloha Stadium is still rusting away and the Hawaii governor and legislature can’t get on the same page with respect to financing and building a replacement. There’s the appearance of a game plan to move ahead with the project (including some very pretty renderings posted earlier in this thread), but final issuance of an RFP to stadium developers is currently on hold because there’s disagreement behind the scenes over whether and how much money should come from the private sector.

It’s ridiculous because Aloha Stadium has always been a publicly-financed multi-use state-controlled facility and before the Covid crisis there was agreement that the full $350 million replacement cost would be taxpayer-funded. Then during the pandemic the governor and legislature panicked and cut public funding to $170 million with no plan for making up the difference other than vague references to a “public-private partnership.” Now the Hawaii economy has recovered and the state has a billion dollar budget surplus, but the governor refuses to issue the RFP until the legislature restores the full $350 million funding while the legislature can’t reach a consensus to do so because too many members have other pet priorities they want to spend the surplus money on.

They’ll figure it out eventually but in the meantime UH is left playing in a makeshift on-campus stadium and begging for someone to give them a definitive timeline for when they’ll have access to a new Aloha Stadium. Right now the best case is that the politicians will settle the financing issue in the next few months and construction will begin in 2023 and be done in 2025.

Would not be much different than anyone in row 1 of any upper deck ever. I would not be surprised if they didn't have a bartop/ledge around it, with a glass wall so it would take purpose for something to get dropped. I also believe that is an exclusive area, so it will be able to be policed a bit better.

What it looks like in the newly renovated Carrier Dome. You can zoom in and see every one of the 32,000.

Also, about halfway into this donor video it shows what the new football operations center will look like.

SEMO South grandstand project will not be completed by this fall due to inflation.

Good for SMU. This is what Georgetown got with a $50 million gift:

That’s pitiful. Georgetown deserves better.

Quote:The University of South Florida’s vision to build an on-campus football stadium took a significant step forward today, with a recommended site selected and a $5 million gift for the project announced.

The location, which is currently used for intramural sports, is within the USF Athletics district and sits near its operations facility and new Indoor Performance Facility. Positioned close to student housing and parking, with multiple options for tailgating space, the site provides an opportunity to enhance the campus experience to create a deeper sense of community and connection to the university.

Looks great

Seems small for D1 with only 3,000 seats, but I see that there are several other similarly-sized venues in the Big South.

Good video about where USF's OCS will go.

Very cool. Having student housing so close should be great for USF, students really help create the atmosphere on Gameday.
