North Endzone building 90% complete at App State's Kidd Brewer Stadium. Football staff moved in few weeks ago, New weight room is basically done. New locker room will be unveiled to the team in a couple of days.

“UH officials hope to receive zoning approval to expand seating capacity to 15,000 next year.”

Zoning approval would need to be granted by Honolulu’s city government, and Honolulu’s mayor Rick Blangiardi is a UH graduate who played football and is in the UH sports hall of fame.

I hope you can get it to 15K. Even building several thousand temporary seats that can be torn down in 3 years.

Just add temporary bleachers.

I think that’s exactly what will be done to expand from 9K to 15K. Once the new off-campus stadium opens there won’t be any need on campus for a 15K facility as 9K should be ample for track & field, spring football games and high school football playoffs.

Looks like a very nice place to watch a game.

Are there any discussions to build bleachers closer to the field? I assume the stadium used to have a track but it got covered up

You are correct. The track was taken out before new turf was instaled last season. There have been some discussions about adding seats in the South Endzone (scoreboard), but not the sidelines. There is a large open area under the club seating on the endzone building but the plan is to use it for game day functions. The lower sections will have to be replaced at some point. The original ones built it the 60's were replaced in '95. The concrete was poured during the winter and it is in very bad shape. Before the scoreboard was put in 4 years ago I was of the opinion we should have pushed the field closer to the West Stands (pressbox side). That would have allowed a downward extension of the upper East Stands that would have landed about where the back of the team box is now. Fans would have been much closer to the field on both sidelines. I think the administration likes the added buffer for security purposes.

Looks like a very nice place to watch a game. Here is an extended view out of the North Endzone taken a few years ago.

The setting is one of the best you'll find. The facility is finally catching up with the surrounding.

Quote:Penn State Athletics announced on Thursday that it would be partnering with Populous, a global design firm, to investigate exactly what will come next for Beaver Stadium.

The study jointly conducted by Penn State Athletics and Populous is expected to run through the end of summer 2021. Its main goals are to identify and analyze upcoming large-scale maintenance projects within the stadium.

Most notably, the study will also explore different upgrades to the stadium which would enhance fan experiences. This includes increasing chairback seating (goodbye #107kStrong?), adding new concession options, more premium seating options, and upgraded restrooms.

Exciting to see so much progress at SDSU.

In other news, the Hawaii legislature recently passed a bill to fund the new Aloha Stadium with a public-private partnership. The governor had expressed reservations about the cost to the state but decided this week not to veto the bill. The next step will be to select the private development team, which should happen by year-end. Also demolition of the old stadium should begin soon.

In the meantime work continues on the temporary on-campus football facility UH will use while the new stadium is being built. Installation of the new field turf is wrapping up and new bleacher construction has begun:

How's the new OCS coming along in Philadelphia for Temple. I see they are still playing in the LINC. A great place to play by the way until the new stadium is built, or a great place to stay if Temple keeps running into political problems and the new stadium is never built. 07-coffee3

Am I the only thinking that has the makings of a great OCS?

No, a lot of UH fans are thinking the same thing, and the players and coaches are excited about playing on campus and having more students at the games.

However the harsh realities are that the site is only large enough to accommodate a 20K-25K seat stadium and the university lacks the funding to build a true FBS-caliber facility. Also traffic on game days would be horrendous due to very constrained access routes onto campus. The surrounding Manoa community which is one of the most affluent on the island would probably fight it tooth and nail.

My guess is that after two or three seasons sqeezing into an undersized venue where the bleacher seats are mostly uncomfortable and have lousy views, the novelty will wear off and everyone will be excited about returning to a full-sized stadium with easy access, big-time crowds, excellent sight lines and state-of-the-art amenities.
