Deion Lavender to D2 Maryville University - Memphis Blazer - 05-10-2018 08:23 AM

Lavender to Maryville
Norton to Drake
Smallwood to Chattanooga
Where did Darling end up?

RE: Deion Lavender to D2 Maryville University - the_blazerman - 05-10-2018 08:24 AM

Delaware.

RE: Deion Lavender to D2 Maryville University - Memphis Blazer - 05-10-2018 08:27 AM

All 4 moved down.

RE: Deion Lavender to D2 Maryville University - ATTALLABLAZE - 05-10-2018 08:56 AM

Kind of telling.

That said I wish them all success. I hope NN can lead Drake to the NCAAs. He will be a heck of a coach one day. Hope Smallwood can finally get meaningful PT. Hope DL can learn to hit an outside shot. I hope Nate finds what he is looking for up there.

I think out of those four we upgraded big time talent wise. I did think Nick could have played here one more year but he would have been pushed hard and may not have won the starting pg spot.

Still upset with all the Boyce voiding his NLI contract gossip.

I hope that ain't true and just a board troll making up drama.

UAB is surging up with football, construction and some of the other sports.

RE: Deion Lavender to D2 Maryville University - BlazerMatt - 05-10-2018 09:30 AM

I think that Memphis is shooting for the moon on some players with the knowledge that we will let Boyce out of his NLI if they don't land some of the guys they are after.

No inside knowledge here, just how I'm reading the tea leaves:

First, Since Penny was hired at Memphis I have not seen a mention from Boyce about UAB, where as our other recruits are all talking us up on social media.
Then there is the fact that we are still actively recruiting with seemingly no spots available, and recruiting guards/wings instead of another big, which seems to be the greater need if Boyce is coming.

Put the two together and it seems like all involved are planning for a world where Boyce doesnt suit up for UAB.

RE: Deion Lavender to D2 Maryville University - Memphis Blazer - 05-10-2018 10:37 AM

So far Hardaway seems to be getting every recruit he wants. His biggest challenge will be James Wiseman, but he is a 2019 recruit and the fight between Memphis and Kentucky for him is going to be a fun thing to watch.

No offense to Boyce, but Memphis seems to be going after and getting higher rated guys than he is. As far as him working out with Memphis signees, they are his high school teammates. I don't think it means anything. It would not surprise me that Boyce wants to play at Memphis for his former coach and his teammates. That might be why he is playing down UAB. That said, I doubt there is space for him there.

I've seen no talk here in Memphis or anywhere on the Internet of Boyce to Memphis except on Blazertalk from someone with a reputation for trolling UAB fans.

Memphis is not after Boyce

Maybe I'm missing something but this article says that Memphis has no scholarships available. So that makes me think that they aren't going after Boyce.

Memphis roster complete

RE: Deion Lavender to D2 Maryville University - ATTALLABLAZE - 05-10-2018 02:32 PM

That is correct.

Just playing devil's advocate, but there are ways around this...

RE: Deion Lavender to D2 Maryville University - BlazerMatt - 05-10-2018 02:45 PM

Or could be another team recruiting him. Either way, he's signed his LOI so it's shady as hell. Hope he decides to stay.

RE: Deion Lavender to D2 Maryville University - Big Dee - 05-10-2018 03:02 PM

They have six rising seniors none that are highly rated, and only one is from Memphis all five could be gone tomorrow if Penny Hardaway and Mike Miller decides too.

I hope Boyce stays, but if he leaves I hope it's tomorrow so eshan has time to fix things since Ryan is a huge part going forward. A lil uab love from Boyce would go a long way.

Well there is a fixed number of basketballs on the court in play at any one time. Maybe Boyce doesn't want to be 6th in line for touches.

RE: Deion Lavender to D2 Maryville University - BlazinBham - 05-10-2018 04:59 PM

Interesting thing is how Smallwood ended up at a better program than all the guards. He’s seven feet tall and you can’t teach that.....

Norton moved to a higher rated conference than CUSA, just to a bad team in that conference.

To be honest, attitude issues aside, 10 years ago Lavender would have been a stud combo guard. He can get to the paint and has a good mid-range game, more importantly he can defend well for his size. In todays game though you have to be able to space the floor on offense; so having his man leaving him wide open at the three point line and basically playing free safety just killed our team offense when he was in the game.

WE messed up big time trying to turn him into a PG

RE: Deion Lavender to D2 Maryville University - WesternBlazer - 05-10-2018 09:20 PM

Not a lotta choice there. The biggest mistake was not having a backup PG....
