I think the kid from Michigan Speicht transferred to UCLA already if i remember correctly. It would be odd for him to join a Michigan guy.

At the other end of that list, unless he has family ties, going to Athens to play in the MAC isn't exactly bright lights, big city. UCF was a bur under the saddle of the P5 this past season with their self-proclaimed national championship. But it did create some positive media attention for the "P6" AAC. Playing in Nippert on national TV is a pretty good gig too.

He does have family ties. He is from Athens and his dad is a coordinator for OU. I'd be surprised if he gives them more than a cursory look, though.

I think we have as good of a chance as anybody. LSU is the biggest name on his list, but I don't see Ed Orgeron as the kind of recruiter that is going to wow an out-of-state kid. Texas Tech does have the benefit of having a former quarterback as its coach, but they're not exactly a powerhouse and Lubbock is a hole. We are 2 hours from home, have a good relationship with Burrow via Fickell's OSU ties, and he will essentially be handed the starting job for the next two years. Let's not sell ourselves short... we have a lot to offer to Burrow, especially if he doesn't want to move halfway across the country.

Also, getting to play both Ohio and Ohio State the next two years has to be appealing to him as well.

Yup. Exorcism probably more appropriate.

My boss's boss was just hired away from Texas Tech. He told me TT gave him a $200,000 raise over his previous job in a similar role at UAB. And he said it wasn't worth it, because it's in Lubbock.

There is nothing to suggest he would want to endure those west Texas sandstorms and have his family flying to that isolated outpost in Lubbock. Baton Rouge? Great town and big time SEC football but the fact that he is from Ohio and chose to play in state close to family and friends makes UC a great fit for his particular circumstances. Throw into that mix a chance to be the starter three months from now and I like our chances.

Fickell's recruiting has been outstanding and UC fans have noticed. Sign him and many casual fans in this area who lost interest during the Tubs years may view this as a turning point and return this fall.

THIS. I think once we get Burrow in a room with the guys he knows (Phillips and Fickell), then add in Denbrock, who helped develop Deshone Kiser into a high level draft pick despite his issues...you stand a pretty good shot. Especially considering the track record LSU has for destroying QBs.

What's the word? Did the visit go well? Anyone have intel?

RE: LSU, Cincinnati Granted Permission - Bearcat 1985 - 05-11-2018 01:34 PM

Does he have two years left or only one? I have to think he knows he'll be the guy, no questions, the moment he steps on campus at UC.

He's got two years left, and immediately eligible.

...apparently nothing yet. Would have been nice to keep him from going to LSU but that might not have been realistic. We will see after this weekend. Is he visiting Texas Tech also or not?

RE: LSU, Cincinnati Granted Permission - The T-Shirt - 05-11-2018 09:13 PM

Don't get your hopes up as this certainly isn't in the bag just yet, but his recent Twitter follows are quite interesting*. We'll see if it happens for LSU coaches and players tomorrow too.

* Coaches Fickell, Brady Collins, and Mike Hartline. Players Malik Vann and JaVon Hicks.

Reportedly staying in Baton Rouge for 3 days...

Quote:Joe Burrow arrives in Baton Rouge

Burrow scheduled a visit to Cincinnati on Thursday before arriving to Baton Rouge on Friday, sources confirmed with the Geaux247 staff. Burrow made the trip to Baton Rouge with his father, mother and brother, and they will stay in town from Friday until Sunday - giving them three days to get a closer look at what LSU has to offer for the nation's most-coveted graduate transfer quarterback.

Burrow and his family arrived on LSU's campus on Friday evening, where they were able to meet up with the staff and eat dinner with the coaches. It's all hands on deck this weekend for the Tigers, from head coach Ed Orgeron to offensive coordinator Steve Ensminger to defensive coordinator Dave Aranda.

The Burrow's are no strangers to the football life, with his father Jimmy Burrow serving as the defensive coordinator at Ohio. Burrow's brothers both played college football at Nebraska.

The visit from Burrow - who left high school as a four-star quarterback with offers from schools across the country - comes at a time where the Tigers are still searching for answers at the quarterback position. Orgeron did not name a starting quarterback coming out of spring ball, meaning the race between junior Justin McMillan, sophomore Myles Brennan and redshirt freshman Lowell Narcisse is still open. Adding Burrow to the mix would certainly boost the quarterback depth chart, and likely give the Tigers an arm they could turn to as a starter this fall.

No Geaux Joe?

Why? He visited UC for an afternoon and is at LSU for 3 days.
