LSU, Cincinnati Granted Permission - BEARCATDALE - 05-08-2018 07:35 PM LSU, Cincinnati Granted Permission to Contact Ohio State Transfer Joe Burrow Interesting news RE: LSU, Cincinnati Granted Permission - UCGrad1992 - 05-08-2018 08:08 PM Saw another article on this earlier today. Sounds like Nebraska is a likely landing point with the new coach Frost and the fact that Burrow's father and brothers played previously for the Cornhuskers. Would love it if CLF could pull a rabbit out of a hat and land this kid because he is eligible to play this coming season. I'm not counting on it though. Based upon the article and my current understanding, OSU can withhold permission from certain schools. I suspect that list has a good chance of including the rest of the Big 10 which obviously would eliminate Nebraska unless Burrow wanted to sit out 1 to play 1 instead. Good point but then you get into the narrative of the big, powerful, rich school controlling where a non-starter transfers. That would take a big sack for Ohio State to tell this kid he can't play where his father and brothers did but then again... OSU is essentially the big sack of Ohio and never lets anyone forget it, so there is no surprise that it doth swingeth in this matter as well. This should be bulletin material for the next kid that is balancing a scholarship at UC and OSU. The buckeyes have essentially stashed this kid on their bench for several years and are now narrowing his ability to play elsewhere. Not only is he allowed to play next season, he has two seasons of eligibility left. This would be a situation where having an O$U connection with our coach could be an advantage, but I don't think it's going to be enough now. While we used to carry clout enough (even as a G5) to possibly swing this guy, I think the Kiel situation perpetrated by coach Andy Griffith ruined any cred we had. The guy IS from Ohio, though. I'm not sure if any prospect is going to even know who Gunner Kiel is. I would think this kid is going to be comfortable with what he's familiar with, and he has an immediate opportunity to start here at UC with someone who used to be a coach on his team. We've got a shot, though I'm not sure of the likelihood. I mean, the Gunner Kiel fiasco was orchestrated by a coaching staff that isn't even remotely a part of this program anymore. If Burrow were to look at Kentucky, where Gran/Hinshaw are, he might ask that question. But for UC, I doubt that concern even comes up in the conversation. That's who you'd bring that question up to. Not someone at UC who wasn't around when Kiel was. RE: LSU, Cincinnati Granted Permission - Bearcat2012 - 05-09-2018 10:32 AM I hope we can overcome our conference situation with this one . Coming from Ohio State, Im sure this kid would like to showcase his talents on a SEC or Big 10 type stage. We've got the Ohio and Fickell connection in our column . Is it enough? The fact that we can even entertain this possibility is encouraging! If Tommy Fife was still here... Hey Joe! Look right down I-71. See all the folks waving their arms?! RE: LSU, Cincinnati Granted Permission - TubaCat - 05-09-2018 10:54 AM I would almost rather have a good JUCO OL who is ready to be a 3 year starter than yet another QB. Hayden makes dumb decisions, but I think he would be quite serviceable against the AAC if our OL was even just average. Our OL is just so bad... And I'm not convinced that wearing a scarlet and gray uniform for a few years automatically puts you head and shoulders above the AAC. I'm sure he would do better than Hayden in any given scenario, but Hayden isn't the biggest problem IMO. Burrow: "You know, I'm actually considering Cincinnati." LSU/Florida/Nebraska: "You don't want to go there. Let me tell you what happened to a guy named Gunner Kiel when he went there." Say Kiel had actually developed here and went on to be a 1st round draft pick, you don't think the current UC staff wouldn't tell a kid that UC can get you to the NFL??? Gunner Kiel got there from here. ...it's all probably a moot point anyway. RE: LSU, Cincinnati Granted Permission - robertfoshizzle - 05-09-2018 10:57 AM Joe Burrow is really, really good. He would absolutely tear it up in the AAC and would pull us out of rebuilding mode immediately. With him at QB, you're looking at 8-9 wins next year and competing for the AAC Championship in 2019. Coach Fickell is going to pull out all the stops to try to make this happen. True but you take talent when and where you can get it. Competition, competition, competition. As several have posted, this is probably a pipe dream at best. Hayden or bust! Coach Fickell is going to pull out all the stops to try to make this happen. He makes the offense relevant immediately. The defense is still really young especially the back of the defense. I'm skeptical they'll be much better than last year on that side of the ball.
