Yeah, my daughter and I are going to drive to the game for a daddy/daughter day.

Same here. We should be at Ledo's around 4:00.

Big Gathering planned for BWW.

I'm down for that. What time?

1) the offense has NFL talent at QB and WR (Buckshot and AGG). (We will see about that)
2) the offensive line is experienced and should not be a weakness to the offense as we bring back a lot of talent there and they weren’t really a weakness last year. (So your not a weakness OL didn't work hard enough for your NFL talented QB and WR's last season? Because if they did i am sure you guys would have seen a different result at the end of the season)
3) our best defensive player is back (Wells) playing DE and will also end up being drafted. Okay
4) the major concern is stopping the run and we brought in A LOT of guys from JUCO just for that. Alright
5) Michael Lewis should boost depth on he DE position (we beat out K-State for him) Another okay but do you realize you aren't going to intimidate FBS offensive linemen with one FBS level DE.

Its all rainbows and sunshine before the season begins for most of the fanbases but when teams hit the field dreams come crashing down most of the times esp during the first game of the season.

I don't see any link between the QB and an NFL chance. Not that it wont happen, but he would be on the radar, correct? The WR looks legit.

I suspect our DL will give your OL a lot of fits. It is a really good and deep DL.

I wouldn't expect a ton out of a DE as a true freshman. He looks like an ok mid major recruit with 1 P5 offer, but thats quick to expect him to compete at the FBS level.

It appears you guys have a lot of NFL talent....why were you guys so bad last year? Honest question

These are valid responses. Buckshot is a junior so this will be the year he starts getting graded. Most project round 5-7, he has a couple of NFL scout, profiles but I would expect those to increase this season. AGG was listed as a top 50 WR for this year and was low because of being FCS. Y’alls dline is good but I don’t think ODU will control the oline. Our true freshman I don’t think will be an all American I was just stating the talent level is much higher. As to the last question it was pretty simple. Last year was a wash. I would have liked us to play better but injuries and an inability to stop the run is what cost us. Those should be better this year. All around we will be better and I suspect we will at a minimum be in the game in the 4th.

I'm putting the O/U at 150 yards for Cox and 250 total and 3.5 sacks for OX and 5 total.

Alabama has been recruiting our top 757 talent for years. Alabama just offered 2019 class, Cam'Ron Kelly of Oscar Smith. They know the 757 very well. It would be amazing to see that legendary program on our football field. If ODU wanted it, Bama would come.

Wilder is buddies with Coach James Franklin of Penn State. Maybe we could get a home opener with the Nittany Lions.

My point is, get a good team to open the season for a change.

FIU, FAU, MTSU and WKU all open with P5's. We open with cupcakes every year.

Don't know why I am going to reply to you again because you are seriously delusional if you think Alabama would ever play us in Norfolk. For the past several years lets look at bamas non conference:

2018: vs Louisville in Orlando, home for Ark State, ULL and the Citdael
2017: vs FSU in Atlanta, home for Fresno, Colorado State and mercer
2016: vs USC in Arlington, home for WKU, Kent State and Chattanoga
2015: vs Wisconsin in Arlington, home for MTSU, ULM and Chrleston Southern
2014: vs WVU in Atlanta, home FAU, USM and Western carolina

Hopefully the past 5 years is enough evidence for you to stop with the bama coming to Norfolk stuff. There is a clear pattern and Bama wont even play non-conference away games at other P5 schools let alone a G5. Just stop.

As for Penn State the last 2 times they played an away game at a G5 (2011 and 2015) were both against temple at the Linc. Penn State is not coming here either.

There's nowhere in the country that Alabama needs the exposure that they would play at a G5 to get it. I think playing a cupcake is a good strategy to get the kinks out.

Sirloin just wants us beaten up, so the hokies don't have any surprises.

Am I the only one that remembers Bama wanted to play us? At their house for 1.3 million.

I doubt they would want to play at our place; they don't need to play here to recruit like VT and UNC does.

I remember that. I believe it was for TH's last season. I remember talking to coach Scott about it at a ODAF event. He even said there was no good reason to play them.

RE: ODU Football Opponent Preview: Liberty - monarx - 08-10-2018 10:30 AM

First, Liberty is not a cupcake. They are a new to FBS program with a much longer football tradition than we have. VMI is our cupcake this season. The goal this year is to 1. Win CUSA and 2. Go to a bowl. Winning CUSA is a very long shot this season and to get to a bowl we have to win at least 6 games. We will be hard pressed to win 6 this season as it is, swapping LU for a P5 would make that highly unlikely. I'm perfectly fine with LU on the schedule, an in-state, drivable game where the fan bases are familiar with each other and the competition should be good. It should build interest in the state and generate some publicity where we recruit students. Getting beat by Alabama on the road in the first week and then having a 4 or 5 win season is not a better option than playing LU in my opinion.

RE: ODU Football Opponent Preview: Liberty - Gilesfan - 08-10-2018 10:32 AM

Just FYI, other coaches said this anonymously:

Old Dominion

"You could show ODU as a textbook on how to transition up to FBS play. Now, their roster pops out at you."

"They don’t have national attention but they’re not a transition program anymore"

"They’ve defensive ends that can cause major problems in pass rush."

"This could be the year they mature in the right places and make a run."

We have more FCS playoff wins than they do. So what'd that tradition get them?

As QB and the receivers go, we go. Simple as that.

RE: ODU Football Opponent Preview: Liberty - Grommet - 08-10-2018 11:05 AM

If we play a powerhouse P5 as the season-opener and lose a la VT or UNC, I'm sure this board would be the calming voice of reason we've all come to know and expect.

RE: ODU Football Opponent Preview: Liberty - ODUBB35 - 08-10-2018 11:19 AM

Let's see if we can cross the 50 yard line against a Top 20 team before we schedule a Top 4 team.

RE: ODU Football Opponent Preview: Liberty - Old Dominion - 08-10-2018 11:48 AM

Not really feeling the need to OPEN with a P5. By Sept.1 we could play little sisters of the poor and I'd be there. I like the idea of opening easy, getting a game or two under our belt before taking on the P5's.
