It is only tradition if you are good. Liberty has a football history and it is meh at best (One 1-AA Playoff appearance in 27 seasons of 1-AA football). Come 9:30 p.m. or so on September 1st I fully expect to be us 1-0 after having watched a comfortable Monarch win and collecting a nice check. I agree that playing Alabama in Week 1 would do nothing for us but then again short of the paycheck I don't think Liberty does much for us either.

Two points:
Being meh can be a tradition, and Liberty seems to pull it off rather well.

You normally get one or the other in Week One: the win or the check. Here, we have the opportunity for both!

Jacksonville was a huge game. Our first ever FCS win if Im not mistaken. The team was so excited afterward and said the win proved they belonged. Four historic wins that wouldnt normally mean much, but are huge in Monarch history would be Chowan (1st win), Jacksonville (1st FCS win) UMass (1st CAA win) and Rice (1st FBS win)
