The goal this year is to 1. Win CUSA and 2. Go to a bowl. Winning CUSA is a very long shot this season and to get to a bowl we have to win at least 6 games. We will be hard pressed to win 6 this season as it is, swapping LU for a P5 would make that highly unlikely. I'm perfectly fine with LU on the schedule, an in-state, drivable game where the fan bases are familiar with each other and the competition should be good. It should build interest in the state and generate some publicity where we recruit students. Getting beat by Alabama on the road in the first week and then having a 4 or 5 win season is not a better option than playing LU in my opinion.

It is only tradition if you are good. Liberty has a football history and it is meh at best (One 1-AA Playoff appearance in 27 seasons of 1-AA football). Come 9:30 p.m. or so on September 1st I fully expect to be us 1-0 after having watched a comfortable Monarch win and collecting a nice check. I agree that playing Alabama in Week 1 would do nothing for us but then again short of the paycheck I don't think Liberty does much for us either.

Two points:
Being meh can be a tradition, and Liberty seems to pull it off rather well.

You normally get one or the other in Week One: the win or the check. Here, we have the opportunity for both!

04-cheers

We were fortunate to beat them last time in Norfolk with Taylor Heinicke.

Seems like we have a little trouble starting the season traditionally.

Just sayin.

Also, have we ever started the season at an away game?

Jacksonville was a huge game. Our first ever FCS win if Im not mistaken. The team was so excited afterward and said the win proved they belonged. Four historic wins that wouldnt normally mean much, but are huge in Monarch history would be Chowan (1st win), Jacksonville (1st FCS win) UMass (1st CAA win) and Rice (1st FBS win)

I think Idaho in our transition year was the first FBS win

Ya, I recall Idaho as our first win at Idaho in that hanger. Although I think the Rice one was more impactful to me. I think everyone considered Idaho not much better than middle tier FCS teams.

Yes. You are correct. Rice was our first CUSA win. So I'd add Idaho to the list.

That's right. I attended both of those games. Our first FBS win, our first CUSA win plus our first bowl game win!

Ah, you should have gone with the group deal. Could have gotten 10 for the same price. Assuming you didn't get any 60+ or youth tickets where it seems they're knocking $5 off, which is nice.

Eastside Reserved Chairbacks:

Regular Price $40 x 6 = $240
Group Price (10-24 tix) $24 x 10 = $240
