Couldn’t agree more optimistic...hank just needs to let last years QB’s go. Tyner, stank and Marshman are all old news. The conversation needs to be about Green, Harvard, and towns. How are those guys going to fit in 2019. Who emerges as the #1. Will we be better up front?

That.... and I'd argue that next year's QB competition/debate belongs in an entirely different thread.

I'm good with that, new thread, and hopefully with QBs that are on the team and QBs coming in.

But what constitutes a plateau?

Also, is relevancy a step function?

The Roost's article was pretty spot-on in terms of targets I think but hearing one guy that we're in on that wasn't reported in that article is Andrew Gleason, DE, West Monroe (LA).

6'3", 240lbs with scholarship offers from ULL and ULM.

"a period or state of little or no growth or decline: to reach a plateau in one's career."

As for the other one, you need to ask somebody with better math than me - unless by step function you mean dancing.

Saw this about him: "The reason I don’t have more offers is I tore my ACL and my shoulder junior year so I only played a couple games that year and couldn’t go to camps over the summer." --(Texas Tech preferred walk-on DE offer Andrew Gleason)

As a general rule, sign me up for any first team all state 5A player in Louisiana that we can get into school.

Connor Hughes committed as PWO OL.

Has some decent offers for a walk-on (Brown, San Diego, Davidson, Mary-Hardin Baylor).

Another DL we're looking at:

From his film, seems he's also a LB and TE.

Jovoni Johnson commits. Best case scenario we have a 6-5, athletic QB who's a diamond in the rough. Worst-case scenario we have a kid on the team with a 34 ACT.

I'm thinking best case is the more likely one. Really like his upside. But that worst case isn't half bad.

Very nice commit. A few more graduate transfers (the Stanford guys perhaps, and then the Ouchita Baptist OL and Columbia DL who are visiting this weekend), and I'd say we're in pretty good shape for a much improved 2019.

The Comical had an article about Rice FB recruiting today and some kind of hint about a UT RB transferring to Rice. Anybody know what this is about?

The running back they’d most likely be referring to is Toneil Carter. Haven’t heard him connected to Rice but maybe?

Edit: He’s going to Sam Houston.

RE: [split] Mike Bloomgren's 2nd Rice recruiting class - ExcitedOwl18 - 02-03-2019 09:37 AM

Could also be Kyle Porter.

RE: [split] Mike Bloomgren's 2nd Rice recruiting class - Fort Bend Owl - 02-03-2019 09:59 AM

Texas finally announced the player to be named later in the Calvin Anderson trade?

Porter is a former 4-star recruit out of Katy. His playing time went down quite a bit this year (and he ended up redshirting so he could preserve another season), but he scored 4 TD's his junior year in 2017.

Tristian Houston is another graduate transfer running back for the Horns out of Houston. He's from North Shore but hasn't played as much as Porter through the years. And actually Hookem Horns seems to think Houston is the one who might land at Rice.

Hey, if we're giving the Longhorns a pipeline of quality proven D1 athletes in their prime, at least make it a 2-way pipeline, where we get some of their coveted recruits who disappointed in their UT careers. Makes it a little easier to take. Prefer having that "arrangement" than just losing good graduate players to different schools without ever getting anything in return.

Losing proven impact players like Abercrumbia and gaining graduate transfers who weren't big contributors at better programs is probably a net loss. We are losing 2 good DL's. Make up for that with 2-3 grad transfers at different positions, with at least 1 who is a DL and I'll take it. Running back is a position where we are thin.

Good news-- Aston Walter granted another year of eligibility and will return for the 2019 season...

Looks like we just picked up a few more players from HS - RB (Noriega), Anigbogu (OLB/Safety) and WR (Mecom).

I believe these are preferred walk ons.
