uggg......Charlotte lost 5-4 in 11 innings to FAU on Saturday and THEN blew a 5-1 7th inning lead and lost 6-5 on Sunday. 2 wins AT No. 11 would have helped us alot. 03-banghead

Looks like we’ve got a 3-way horse race at the top, with each of the top three schools 2 games ahead of the pack. This should get very interesting down the stretch.

Wow. We're really bad this year.

And how USM remained at 13 is a mystery. We went 3-2 with home losses to ULL and WKU. No disrespect to those programs but they came in with RPIs starting the week of 107 (ULL) and 225 (WKU). USM fell from 40th to 50th in RPI while those 2 improved to 84 (ULL did win 2/3 at home vs UTA who is 106) and 204 (WKU had no midweek games)

Logjam in the middle amongst a bunch of mediocre teams.

Rice plays MT this week... They seem to have suspect pitching and given that they play two midweek games this week, I hope we can exploit that!

RE: April 9 baseball records and rpi - goliath74 - 04-09-2018 12:15 PM

Hopefully, if we have a good week, FAU might enter the Top 25. Speaking of which, how come we're not in it right now? Are we still hampered by the loss to Bethune-Cookman?

I was wondering that myself. High RPI. High win%. I know you beat Miami and one of the USM games, is there anyone else?

It's all subjective. D1 ranked Louisiana Tech at #22 last week (dropped to #25 this week after 2-2), yet didn't have them making the NCAA tournament in their midseason projected field of 64 released the same day, while we'd get an at-large bid. We usually don't get ranked by D1 'til much later into the season. That's just the way it goes for us. I really wouldn't pay too much attention to the rankings. PG has us ranked at #19 this week while CB doesn't even have Southern Miss ranked in their top 30. While it's great to see our teams ranked in the polls, RPI is more important in the end. That'll get us to the tournament. Even if we won that game, I highly doubt we'd be ranked at this point in the season. It's like that every season for us.

We won one at Oregon, as well. Also, most of our losses (as of this posting) have come against top 50 RPI opponents.

2-6 against 1-50
6-0 against 51-100
11-1 against 101-150
5-1 against 151-297

We just don't get ranked by the polls. We're just used to it by now.

We've swept Miami 3-0 this season.

Yes, our ranking at this point is ridiculous. We should barely be in the top 25.

FWIW Miami, like Rice, kinda sucks this year.

I feel like this is setting up for Rice to come out of nowhere in the conference tournament.

If you won your weekend series, you aren’t dropping in the polls significantly.

FAU is hampered by the fact that they’ve done nothing on the weekends.
