Baseball Rankings April 9 - Yu-Es-Em - 04-09-2018 08:56 AM

BaseballAmerica still has us at #12. D1baseball keeps us at #13. I truly do not understand it.
Here's the record for teams ranked #12-#20 for BA.com:

#12 Southern Miss (22-9)
#13 Kentucky (22-10)
#14 Vanderbilt (19-13)
#15 Oklahoma (23-11)
#16 Indiana (22-6)
#17 Coastal Carolina (23-11)
#18 UCLA (19-8)
#19 LSU (20-13)
#20 North Carolina (21-11)

None of these are particular great records except for Indiana. Maybe a down year for college baseball? Or maybe expectations are too high and we forgot how hard it was to win consistently in college baseball? I think State winning the series against OM really helped us. Just think if we had won the games that we we blew leads in. Top 10 or Top 5. We just have to keep winning. Let's beat Ole Miss.

developing year round travel team talent will dilute the w/l....that’s been going on for some time now....same thing happened to golf and hoops....

If you win your weekend series, you don’t drop in the polls—at least not significantly. That’s just how it is.

That’s a product of how polls are done: The previous week’s poll is the basis and the results over only the last week determine movement. If pollsters scrapped the previous week’s rankings and re-evaluated teams’ entire body of work, we wouldn’t be in the top 25. But as is, we are the #12 team and the fact that we have only won 2/3 the last two weekends against bad competition will have no bearing on what happens in next week’s polls. Only this week’s results matter—and more specifically, this weekend’s.

Objectively, we aren't the 12th best team in the country. Not close to it honestly.

Yeah, you can say we should have won a few of those games that we let teams come back, but we also could/should have lost some of those games we came back in. I think our record is pretty accurate at this point.
