RE: Victor E. Ball Silent Auction now live - uiniu57 - 04-12-2018 02:50 PM

Typically disappointing.
Here it is the afternoon of Thursday (April 12) and it says people have until 7:30 p.m. (CST) on April 14 to be bid.
Have a hard time believing this was originally posted on 4-3-18 at 3:32 p.m. and not one single post was made between then and 7:50 a.m. this morning?
Let's ignore the link to register to attend for which the deadline is now four days passed.
There's a reference to nearly 200 items and generic descriptions, click on the "auction website" link and you get connected to "Home::Give Smart" where you see three items: No. 101 Diem, Golladay, Lewis Autographed Helmet; No. 102 Kane County Cougars Suite; and No. 103 Original Artwork "No Mud, No Lotus".
Then click on View All Items and it says Loading Items, please wait.
FOR HOW LONG? Went to the bathroom, then stopped to grab something to drink from the kitchen, and came back to find nothing loaded. To the left was Show All Items, tried the drop-downs for Silent Items, Live Items, Items with no bids, and unsold items --- none of them produced anything other than the same screen. There's a search for item option but that doesn't lead to anything even if you had an idea of what to search for.

Note to Huskie Info: you say "It's simple, it's a small thing, but every bit helps."
Not if this isn't publicized better in advance and certainly not when what you post doesn't lead to anything.
Before anyone responds with a quit being negative reply, I was in a good mood, finally had a break in a busy schedule, thought to myself check this out and support NIU athletics in a manner beyond giving an annual donation, buying tickets, attending an event, paying for parking and concessions, etc. But the end result, as said at the start: "Typically disappointing."

Well, it was posted when the silent auction went live as a public service to those on this board. If no one else wants to comment, it's going to slide down. Many items have been bid on to the tune of nearly $18,000 by more than 100 people so obviously everyone is not having the problems that you describe. It's also been tweeted and retweeted by Alumni Assoc daily, on Facebook daily, sent out via e-mail on front page of website and in news article in the Daily Chronicle. If this is the only place you get your Huskie news, well, then yeah, you're going to miss stuff. Feel confident it's been well publicized.

I agree. It's been all over Twitter etc and I haven't had any loading issues.

I've seen it several times on social media. Seems like the bidding is going decently.

The lack of access to some of the items being auctioned (e.g. jerseys, golf bag, helmets, etc.) always surprised me. If the authentic game worn jerseys are going to sell for $300+, why not auction them more often, or at the very least, have more than 2 in the current auction? Or if the bidding for an NIU golf bag is now well over $300, why not sell them at the university book store or auction more than one? I agree though the auction seems to be going pretty well.

No loading issues and heard about auction multiple times.

RE: Victor E. Ball Silent Auction now live - prairiedawg - 04-12-2018 08:17 PM

I have been looking at the auction items for weeks it seems. Some people need a life.

RE: Victor E. Ball Silent Auction now live - Dog Fan - 04-13-2018 07:54 AM

Unfortunately, the timing may prevent some people from participating. With season ticket renewals and HAF commitments coming due, some folks may not have the extra financial resources to participate in the event and/or auction.

think its designed to coincide with tax return season. or at least that was where my mind went.

agree that they need to put more football items on there. thats the money maker. people are hungry for that, not Orlando Magic signed basketballs.

For those who need to pay the friendly IRS, yet another reason why the timing may not be the best.

RE: Victor E. Ball Silent Auction now live - HW58 - 04-13-2018 02:43 PM

The promotion and timing are fine. What they could definitely use is more items signed by some of the great athletes and other talents to come out of NIU. Golladay, Lewis and Diem are all great and were easy "gets" during NIU Football's Stories from the Sidelines in February. But how about signed items from Lynch, Free, Turner, Wolfe, Bork, English, Kill, Novak, Melvin, Ward, Peat, Johnson or Kellar? How about crazy Lee Corso? Maybe an oar signed by PJ Fleck? I'd bid on items from basketball stars Battle, Lux, Silas, Nader. A signed baseball by Fritz Peterson would be cool. Are there any old posters, pins, photos, other memorabilia stuffed in closets in the athletic department that could be auctioned? Not into sports? How about something signed by Robert Zemeckis, a Homer Simpson item signed by Dan Castellaneta, a Sons of Anarchy poster signed by Kurt Sutter, a movie still signed by Joan Allen (and throw in Matt Damon for good measure), a Smashing Pumpkins CD signed by Jimmy Chamberlin, a Lagunitas tapper signed by Tony Magee, something from Tammy Duckworth (probably not while she's in office) or Dennis Hastert (OK, maybe not!). Remember Lacey Underalls in Caddyshack? Yep, NIU alum Cindy Morgan. Who wouldn't bid on a Caddyshack poster signed by Cindy?! How about auctioning off a skybox experience for 4 during one of the November football games, or free warm hot dogs for the entire football season, a catered tailgate party from Fatty's, the chance to be on the field for a football game coin flip, the chance to watch a football game from the sidelines... Lots of opportunities to celebrate NIU's heritage and raise funds.

RE: Victor E. Ball Silent Auction now live - NIUSAE - 04-13-2018 06:20 PM

I'd definitely be more interested in experiential items than the signed stuff and I plan on bidding on a couple of items. You have put forth some very good ideas for next years, or if Huskie Info is reading this today maybe some of them could be added for tomorrows, auction. I have not had any issues with the auction items loading and have received plenty of info on it.

RE: Victor E. Ball Silent Auction now live - huskie1stdown - 04-13-2018 08:50 PM

Fish a couple goal posts out of the lagoon and put them in the auction.

Victor E. Ball Silent Auction now live - Dog Fan - 04-13-2018 09:24 PM

I was hoping to bid on one of Rod's old jock straps from his playing days at Indiana, but it is not to be found. I'm sure that would have brought in big bucks.
