RE: Evans... - GameTime_21 - 05-11-2018 07:43 PM

If he goes anywhere in the top 40 he's going to get at minimum a 2 year guarantee and be a millionaire. His projection from the NBA was mid to late 20s and the team's I have talked to at the back of the first round all like him a lot. It's not doss money to have servants living on the grounds, but Jake will be just fine...

If you had to guess, where do you see him going? Portland seems to like him a lot, as does Utah.

Won't have a great feel for that until after.private workouts and the combine. Right now I'd guess somewhere between 21 and 28...

Good luck to Jake. If he gets picked in the first round I see it as a win-win.

That would be cool to see him develop into a pretty solid double figures scorer in the league. Maybe Cumberland blows up this year and gets drafted in the 1st round as well. All the sudden we might start to see better recruits trickling in.

This will be interesting to watch as the guy i watched in Florida and in Nashville at the end of last year was nowhere near a first round draft pick for whatever reason. It will be interesting to see how the combine is reported.

He's 6'6, a great athlete, and a 38% career three point shooter. His end of the season slump was likely influenced by injury but if even if not everyone goes through slumps eventually.

Evans is going to be a successful NBA player. He's got too many skills not to. I think his best role would be as a sub on a good team. Come in and play great defense, help with ball handling, and make open threes. I know they scouted him, I'd love to see him in GS.

During the last part of the season, Evans had already decided to go pro and was playing hurt.

thanks jake. starting to get progressively more interested in the nba with the growing number of bearcats

From a not highly ranked kid out of Baton Rouge to an early entry NBA guy. Pretty dope all around. It would be awesome if he went to a good team at the end of the first round.

RE: Evans... - Def Berkkat - 05-13-2018 10:45 AM

Every time I come on here and see recent comments on this thread I hope that news has broke that it was all a misunderstanding and he's returning next year.

...and every time I'm disappointed.

Maybe you need to go to the realignment thread. You'll still be disappointed, but not as much about Evans...

Eh, I've come to grips with that.

My spirit for that was crushed after the B12 charade a couple of years ago.

AAC... all the way.

It sucks for next year's team, but it's good for the program in the longer term. Also, it's wonderful for Evans.

As a college basketball fan, it's easy to become selfishly myopic. You start to think about the university only in terms of its sports teams. You think that the players are in school mainly for your benefit as a fan of the team. Falling into that type of thinking is what, I believe, is behind much of the opposition to paying college players. Evans is going to make a bunch of money working at the highest level of his chosen profession. UC helped him get there. It's nuts to look at that situation and be disappointed. I want UC hoops to be a top program and win a title and everything else, but it's a bit perverse to consider things solely through how it affects us fans in the short term.

top 100 recruit

I don't know which service had him as a top 100 guy. I don't think it was a consensus. Even if he was a fringe top 100 player, I don't think he was recruited by any of the big programs in the south, or even his hometown SEC school. Pretty remarkable.

As a selfish fan of the Bearcats I would have loved to see Evans back next year. If I was advising him as to what is best for him I'd say go pro. He can dedicate himself 100% to basketball...more games, more training opportunity, less distractions... he can be a first round draft pick and there is little he can accomplish next year that will make him better than what he can do to improve himself as a pro. Very happy for Evans and really rooting hard for him at the next level.
