One of my favorite memories from this past year, was watching Clark finally go right through him.
He caused us so much trouble, before that first game against them this season.

HS/Pre-College: 2
Frosh: 14
Soph's: 5
Juniors: 5
Seniors: 2 (#21 & #30)
European: 2

College seniors do not get drafted in round 1 with any great frequency any more. The NBA is just a different game, and it's one where teams tend to prefer the younger guy with potential upside that they can develop themselves.

Could a player like Evans (or anyone similar to him) boost his draft stock by coming back for his senior season...sure - anything is possible. But while possible, it is not probable/likely.

If he has NBA ability - he is smarter in today's NBA climate to leave school now.

(Note...the same mock draft only has 3 seniors getting selected in the 2nd round.)

So, was Evans included in this mock, and where was he projected?

#35 to the Mavs.
https://www.si.com/nba/2018/04/03/nba-mock-draft-2018-ncaa-tournament-prospects-60-picks

About 1/3 of the second round picks have been making NBA teams...around 850K for minimum contract...if you sign a 2-way deal (16th and 17th player on roster) and play in both the G League and NBA you will make between 200-300K.

ESPN has Evans (mock draft after S16 was set) going 25th making around 1.7M. I posted the Tim Hardaway Jr going #24 and making 6M on rookie contract, then signing a 4 year 71M contract with the NY Knicks (Atlanta Hawks were offering 4 years at 48M).

Updated ESPN mock draft today has Evans slotted at #24 to Portland Trail Blazers

Quote:Like most NBA teams, the Blazers could also use two-way depth at the combo forward spots.

Evans is an ultra-versatile player who guards all over the floor, plays on and off the ball and sports a career 38 percent mark from 3-point territory at the college level.

Starting salary: $1,819,800

RE: Evans... - bearcatdp - 04-10-2018 08:48 PM

From CBS sports:.
Jacob Evans, Cincinnati
Cincinnati's 2018-19 season doesn't hinge on Evans' choice here, but the Bearcats would have legitimate Final Four hopes if he came back. We're talking about a team that went 31-5, was a No. 2 seed, finished fourth in KenPom and would have had a great shot at making it to San Antonio if not for an all-time, 22-point collapse against Nevada in the second round.

The Bearcats lose two key pieces (Gary Clark, Kyle Washington), which would make Evans the unquestionable star -- and probably the American Athletic Conference's preseason pick for player of the year -- if he returned. Evans (13.0 ppg, 4.0 rpg, 3.1 apg, 42.7 FG percentage) is going to get looks in the first round. If that guarantee money is there, it's going to be hard to get him to come back to college. From what I gather, Evans could be picked anywhere from 23rd to about 35th or 36th at this stage.

The workouts and interviews, for better or worse, will go a long way to determining his fate. There's a lot for him to consider.

"It's hard to tell," one source told CBS Sports about trying to pin down what Evans would do. "All kids want to go if they can. He's smart and not desperate. So it depends on the feed back from the NBA -- not agents. Does he get a Chicago invite? If so, how does he perform?"

A first-round guarantee could be the clincher. We've got the Bearcats ranked 25th as things stand now, without him in the mix.

I looked at maybe 8 mock drafts and don’t see Evans going in the first in any of them. He looks ranked around 40-45 in a couple. Is there a mock that is known to be more accurate than most?

RE: Evans... - Bearcat01 - 04-11-2018 09:52 AM

weakest draft class in ages for guards/wings. even if he comes back and becomes all american, its no guarantee he even gets drafted next year at all. Next year draft class could be best in 10yrs. Not to mention I think this last year you can't go straight to nba from high school.

RE: Evans... - Lush - 04-11-2018 12:14 PM

as much as i want jake to stay, him leaving early, as other's have said, is better for the program. it's really helped smu

but we gotta make the tourney next year. always gotta be makin' the tourney. and selfishly, i really want to see cumberland dominate. he's got great vision

he's moved up into mid-late 1st in almost all of the mock drafts over the past week. stock is definitely rising...

-SECCountry: 1st round: 20th pick
-Tankathon: 1st round: 24th pick
-DraftXpress: 1st round: 17th pick
-ESPN: 1st round: 24th pick
-SBNation: 1st round: 25th pick
-Stiff's Updated Big Board: 1st round: 13th pick (up from 47 in Nov.)
-TheStepien.com: 1st round: 17th pick
-NBADraft.net: 2nd round: 51st pick

Pretty cool to see the kid progress on both sides of the ball and make his mark in 3 years, but at the same time, it does seem like he just got here. Still, it'll be fun to watch him in the league.

RE: Evans... - Billy_Bearcat - 04-14-2018 04:26 PM

As much as it would be great to have him back, having a kid go early and be a first rounder can only help future recruiting.

RE: Evans... - RealDeal - 04-17-2018 07:12 PM

Sporting News has Evans at 21 to the Jazz in mock released today.

So, contrary to some other early forecasts this might suggest Evans will be back? I would never suggest any Bearcat bypass a sure thing in the first round. But if that's not the case, the 2018/19 team will be impressive.

RE: Evans... - robertfoshizzle - 04-25-2018 02:59 PM

I want Evans to go if he's a guaranteed first rounder, but if he's not, of course we would all love to have him back.

RE: Evans... - Bearcatbdub - 04-25-2018 05:02 PM

I have seen improvement every year from Evans and I think he could improve his game wihh another year in college. He would definitely be the “guy” on the team next year and he has had to kind of split that duty with gary and kyle until now. If the draft is as loaded with prospects at the 2 and 3 as this article suggests it might benefit him to stay one more.

FWIW the NBA Draft is 6/21

Jake watch is officially over. No surprise. Go get 'em , Evans !

RE: Evans... - Bruce Monnin - 05-11-2018 02:54 PM

I hope it works out for him. I hate seeing college kids screw up by trying to get in the NBA when they are not going to be drafted in the first round.

RE: Evans... - Def Berkkat - 05-11-2018 05:19 PM

Boo.

Well, I hope like heck he's a first rounder, but I just don't see it. With every one these one and dones that have declared after him, he just gets pushed back another place in line.

But... what do I know?

RE: Evans... - doss2 - 05-11-2018 06:16 PM

Bummer. If he is first he is gold , if second he is toast.

RE: Evans... - jarr - 05-11-2018 06:44 PM

Good luck to Jake. Wonder if Mick thinks he can get a player this late, a 5th year guy would be ideal. I think most of the decent JUCO and HS guys are off the table right now. If not that, then use the scholarship on a traditional transfer.
