Looks like Decoursey has us as #20 next year with Evan's returning. Where does this put us with him gone?

I think a 7-10 seed in the Tourney.

#20 is low with Evans returning, I think we are top 15 and probably top 10 with Evans back. #20 is more reasonable without Evans. We will make the NCAA tournament comfortably, but not be a protected seed. I'd say 6-8 seed.

RE: Evans... - rosewater - 04-02-2018 02:37 PM

Is it just coincidence that we just threw in to recruit grad transfer Cremo. 6'5 guard that could replace Evans and keep things very similar.

Sg Moore 08-14 pts

Pf Scott 08-10 pts 5-8 rebounds (most of Scott and Brooks points will be off put backs and up dunks)
C Brooks 06-10 pts 5-8 rebounds

Bench
Williams 6-8 pts
Jenifer 6-8 pts

Not sure what to expect from the rest of the bench. I think the team will finish in the top 4 of the league Avg between 60-70 points a game and get a 6-8 seed in the NCAA Tournament. (just my opinion)

With all of those guys shooting percentages we will be needing a ton of shot attempts for them to be scoring that much. I think Moore shot like 20% from 3 starting in conference play.

I see alot ot double teams for JC, hopefully someone else can emerge.

Being a backup who doesn't get many minutes and is in the game for defense is different from being a starter who is expected to score. With a year to adjust Moore/Williams shooting averages will revert back to closer to what they were in HS. At least 30% from three (and hopefully 35-40%) and 45% from 2. Broome was our best 3-point shooter by percentage last year and should continue this year, being a primary scorer could be good for him.

I've said it before and I'll say it again, Bobby Brannen and Justin Jackson were good for nothing more than a few rebounds and five fouls their first two years. By their senior years, they were our best players.

Relax. Someone will pick up their game.

Seriously. Doesn't anyone wonder how we jumped 4 whole seed lines after losing two solid, senior guards? Players develop. New players come in. Some play better in different combinations with others. Mick has figured it out for a few years now. It'll happen again.

Yup, and there are plenty of options on the bench for players to step up. Maybe Jenifer finally learns to score and we go small with Jenifer and Broome starting, maybe Williams or Moore steps up, maybe Johnson or Hardnett will come in for instant offense as freshmen. Or Diarra is Justin Jackson 2.0 with a 3-point shot. Scott could develop a 3-point shot over the off-season as well, Clark wasn't much of a 3-point shooter as a freshman and Scott's stroke looks like he should be able to develop a jump shot.

I doubt all those things will happen, but I guarantee some players will step up and play significantly better next year then the did this year. If I had to guess I'd say Scott, Brooks, Broome and Williams will make the biggest jumps.

Development is what Mick does; we have Evans possibly leaving early and Cumberland probably doing so next year as well because Mick and crew helped them develop into NBA players. Mick's suceeded so far, I am not concerned that he will suddenly fail next year.

Would be a nice addition, and nice to see Mick and co. Reaching out. We have no idea what kind of chance we have with him at the moment.

Right now, knowing we have at least one spot to fill, Mick should focus on filling that with the best available player, period (preferably with an offensive minded game). I dont think we are in the position to be choosy about position, but we need a legitimate 2nd scoring option to offset JC.

I can't imagine we'd go after Cremo if Evans was coming back (there'd be no open starting spots). This is Cronin recruiting as if Evans is gone and I'd guess he knows what he's doing. Evan's starting spot is the obvious one to fill with a grad transfer and Cremo would be filling it.

We have a legitimate 2nd scoring option in Broome and of course Cronin will be choosy about position. He knows better then any of us who is ready to play big minutes and take on scoring roles.

I honestly would love to add Cremo with Evan's on board as well. This has been discussed alot, but the trend in basketball is positionless basketball. You could have Cremo, Evan's, and Cumberland all in the game together and cause nightmares for teams. Evan's could play a small ball 4 in some scenarios and Cremo looks like he can play 2 or 1. Cumberland is versatile between 1 and 3.

If we actually had Evan's and Cremo both, UC would be a top 4 team next year.

I love this with Evans gone we will throw in on this Grad Transfer or that Grad Transfer as if any of them want to be coached by Mickey.

LMAO

For the most part I agree, I expect Williams to start over Moore though and would flip their points. I expect Scott to be more in the 8-10 rebounds range, he was better then Clark at offensive rebounding this year and very good on the defensive rebounding end to. I also expect Nsoseme to give 2-4 points and 4-5 rebounds per game. Diarra is the wild card, may contribute 6-8 points off the bench or may not be a scorer. We will probably go at least 9 deep and possibly 11 if Johnson/Hardnett can contribute immediately.

RE: Evans... - RealDeal - 04-02-2018 07:27 PM

Im really hoping Johnson can contribute immediately. We could hide JJs lack of offense last year with the other guys but I don't think we'll be able to get away with it next year. I'm hoping he can be limited to around 10 min in meaningful games.

I'm curious what will happen with JJ next year, normally Cronin likes to play his seniors and with only 2 seniors next year I'd normally expect them to get a lot of minutes. But JJ/Broome play the same position and JJ hasn't shown much offensive ability. Maybe JJ will finally have a breakout scoring season as a senior, but I'm not holding my breath on that.

Johnson doesn't necessarily have to be the one to contribute to take JJ's minutes. We saw plenty of Cumberland at PG late in the season and Williams and Hardnett can also play point forward. Broome could also easily play 30 minutes per game.

It will be interesting to see what Cronin chooses to do next season.

RE: Evans... - GoCats1994 - 04-03-2018 02:02 PM

Si just posted a 2-round NBA mock draft. Obviously it's just one person's opinion, but it is also very telling. Among the 1st round projections:

HS/Pre-College: 2
Frosh: 14
Soph's: 5
Juniors: 5
Seniors: 2 (#21 & #30)
European: 2

College seniors do not get drafted in round 1 with any great frequency any more. The NBA is just a different game, and it's one where teams tend to prefer the younger guy with potential upside that they can develop themselves.

Could a player like Evans (or anyone similar to him) boost his draft stock by coming back for his senior season...sure - anything is possible. But while possible, it is not probable/likely.

If he has NBA ability - he is smarter in today's NBA climate to leave school now.

(Note...the same mock draft only has 3 seniors getting selected in the 2nd round.)

#35 to the Mavs.
https://www.si.com/nba/2018/04/03/nba-mock-draft-2018-ncaa-tournament-prospects-60-picks

About 1/3 of the second round picks have been making NBA teams...around 850K for minimum contract...if you sign a 2-way deal (16th and 17th player on roster) and play in both the G League and NBA you will make between 200-300K.

ESPN has Evans (mock draft after S16 was set) going 25th making around 1.7M. I posted the Tim Hardaway Jr going #24 and making 6M on rookie contract, then signing a 4 year 71M contract with the NY Knicks (Atlanta Hawks were offering 4 years at 48M).

This is a very accurate analysis and great explanation. As much as I don't think Evans is ready for the NBA, this is exactly the reason he needs to try.

Age was a big part of Sean Kilpatrick's inability to get drafted. With prep school and a redshirt year Kilpatrick was essentially a 6th year senior.
