I just saw UNF OOC schedule and it’s ambitious. I think that is great. We as a conference need more of this. Some big games they are playing include Dayton, Penn St., Jacksonville St., Florida, Minnesota, Wright St., Florida St. and Auburn. That’s a tough lineup.

I wouldn’t mind A-Sun teams receiving exposure and growth in our markets, supporters/alumni’s and eventually become the conference that morerately replace the A-10 in conference ratings.

I expected us to be higher but I don't blame him based on our underachieving history. Should be stronger at the top of the conference but the bottom is likely down from what we are used to.

It would take a generation or more to over take the A-10. Even then, they could poach the top A-Sun schools or other conferences. They are probably about the 8th best conference in basketball.

These are three really good games. And to have one at home is fantastic.

We can add a visit to Kent St. to the list. Not all that exciting.

Better than playing a D II team.

RE: 2018-19 Basketball Seasons - army56mike - 08-02-2018 07:54 AM

way Way WAY better than playing a DII or below team.

RE: 2018-19 Basketball Seasons - army56mike - 08-26-2018 08:33 AM

@Vandy
@ UCLA
@ Alabama
@ Kent St.
vs. Georgia St.
vs. South Carolina St.
vs. Kentucky Christian U. 03-puke
vs. U. of Maine at Fort Kent 03-puke

What do you think of playing Cal Baptist University each year to create a rivalry, now that they are in the WAC?

Meh, Grand Canyon would be better.

RE: 2018-19 Basketball Seasons - GE and MTS - 08-26-2018 12:09 PM

Cal Baptist doesn't do anything for me. Grand Canyon is slightly better but I don't feel great about a basically for-profit school (unofficially) being a school we want to associate with. I would rather Wake Forest or Big East schools but they would be unlikely to want to play us annually.

Well they were forprofit until they bought nonprofit status back lol.

They are officially non-profit but I believe they set up many processes through a corporation that is run by the same owners. For example, GCU pays rent for property to this corporation which pays the owners. The money is still paid to the same people for the same amount but there is an extra step involved.

RE: 2018-19 Basketball Seasons - SumItUp - 08-26-2018 02:01 PM

Grand Canyon started in 1949, which is more than 20 years before Liberty. They were a private institution. In 2008, the school was heavily in debt and they went public to raise funds to pay off debts and grow the school. Last year, the school regained their private status.

GCU is going to be paying Grand Canyon Education, Inc. a ton of money for services. The university is officially non-profit but the former owners are still getting paid from the university. It's a really hairy situation.

We have some exceptionally good games... G’town, UCLA, Vandy, Alabama, Georgia St.
And we have some real stinkers... Maine at Fort Kent, Trevecca Nazarene, Kentucky Christian.
All in all, 20 wins might be challenging.

RE: 2018-19 Basketball Seasons - GE and MTS - 09-06-2018 04:59 PM

Why do we play non-Division I schools? Other than that, the schedule looks mostly good.

RE: 2018-19 Basketball Seasons - army56mike - 09-06-2018 07:09 PM

We want to be a big time program, but we’re not there yet. As long as we schedule regular season lower division teams it will be that way. By all means, schedule some lower division teams as preseason scrimages, but scheduling them as easy wins, makes us look small time and insignificant.
