SBC baseball average attendance - CardinalBlackTrojan - 03-28-2018 12:42 PM

Here is the average attendance of each team as of 3/28/2018:

Louisiana - 4,888
South Alabama - 1,939
Coastal Carolina - 1,617
Texas State - 1,519
Troy - 1,350
ULM - 989
Georgia Southern - 802
UT-Arlington - 416
Georgia State - 352
Arkansas State - 351
Appalachian State - 343
Little Rock - 167

From the looks of it, Louisiana, USA, Coastal, Texas State, and Troy are averaging well enough to finish in the Top 50 in national attendance.

It would be great to average over a thousand for baseball.

RE: SBC baseball average attendance - debragga - 03-28-2018 02:55 PM

ULM isn’t at the bottom of an attendance list? Color me surprised

App has had some not-so-great weather thus far. Hopefully that average gets into the mid 600s

After bad football seasons, attendance for all the other sports at GS drops. Usually, we’d be up under TXST.

Not to mention only three home games thus far, with two of those a double header because of a snow-out. Weather has been absolutely brutal for baseball.

My immediate thought was that I can't believe there are three teams below us. We get a lot of crap for our attendance in other sports, but our turnout for baseball must be horrifying to anyone in the conference who really cares about it. Hopefully we'll turn a corner once they're playing over by the football stadium.

I believe we averaged 1,845 last year and looks like we're down about 200 this year. I know myself and 2 other people (7 total tickets) did not renew our tickets this year after our prices were drastically increased (23% for me).

You are also trying to compare a season after winning the CWS with one after a down year.

True but look at our SOS last year (94th). We played no one. That was a terrible way to build off the Title. And why wait a year to jack the prices up a ridiculous amount. Do it after the title and more people will be open to it - but you already know my thoughts on that.

The Cajuns baseball support is always impressive. I'd like to go see the Jags play there some time.

I would think that increase is more the cost of doing business in the SBC vs the Big South, than the title.

UL is in another league when it comes to baseball attendance. I am surprised at Georgia Southerns numbers.

RE: SBC baseball average attendance - chiefsfan - 03-30-2018 02:55 PM

We had roughly 45 people at our game last night.

I talked with some people about it and was told that it aligns with other top tier baseball schools. My argument was we don't have the attendance numbers that other top tier baseball schools have, are younger than just about every other top tier baseball school and young alums don't have that kind of money etc.

We are having to adopt a Nascar fan mentality this year......wait around to see in which inning the multi car wreck occurs.....

I would have rather we grew enrollment first before raising prices but my understanding is we didn’t have that luxury due to the requirements of the football stadium financing and move up to FBS and the Sun Belt.

Even though they raised prices there are still very affordable options. I have great seats for football but expect to get priced out at some point - so I’ll likely need to get some different seats. Not ideal but not that big of a deal.

I don't know where that 300 is coming from for Georgia State. GSU's field is way off campus, and isn't anything special anyway. It's definitely the most embarrassing athletic facility the school has. They are going to build a new field where AFC Stadium stood, but that's a couple years off.

It is somewhat of a surprise. After a slow start I think it has certainly kept the casual fan from coming out to the ball park.

However, I'm curious if the App series getting moved played a role in this. Generally I think we count the season ticket holders in that number yet for that 3 game series they informed the season ticket holders their seats would not be honored for the series so I'd bet they didn't count them.

I disagree with that approach and I know that it angered a number of folks (aka season ticket holders) who otherwise would have been there. I wasn't spending $60 to drive down and back to pay an additional $20 to watch it.

And next season, with one fewer set of conference home games now I think there will be some who won't renew. A single move that will likely have negative consequences 2 years over multiple games. A head scratcher to me.

RE: SBC baseball average attendance - _x_ - 04-02-2018 10:27 AM

Baseball attendance is basically just a list of who has the most season ticket holders. I know TXST has over 1,000 so you'll never see a game where our attendance is under 1,100 or so. Cajuns blow the rest of us out of the water with baseball season ticket holders.
