We thank Coach Elliott for her nine years of service to our student-athletes, the community and the University,” Bohn said. “We look ahead to moving the program forward with a group of dedicated returning players and a new arena.”

Kind of surprised, but good move by Bohn.

Hard to extend her contract with just one decent season in nine years. And, that was before someone posted the team's surprisingly low rpi this season.

Results were not worth the half a million a year. Best of luck to Jamelle.

Was she talking to UNLV or something?

RE: Jamelle Elliot Let Go - CliftonAve - 03-21-2018 04:41 PM

They’’Be been waiting to move on for a couple years. Her buyout finally became economical. As someone else noted she was making $500k a year, which is above the median salary in WBB.

My guess is they have some candidates in mind

It's about time.

RE: Jamelle Elliot Let Go - RealDeal - 03-21-2018 05:11 PM

$500,000 seems stupid for a program that gets hundreds of fans a game to come for free. John Brannen makes $300,000 to coach a conference champion team. Makes no sense.

What's Laurie Pirtle up to these days?

RE: Jamelle Elliot Let Go - TubaCat - 03-21-2018 05:46 PM

Well, I guess I'm not too surp-

SHE WAS MAKING HALF A MILLION DOLLARS A YEAR?

Mother of God...

And I'm sure NKU men's basketball puts more butts in the seats than Cincinnati women's basketball.

Good Riddance. A stupid hire.

2009-10 Cincinnati 12–18 4–12 14th
2010-11 Cincinnati 9–20 2–14 15th
2011-12 Cincinnati 16–16 6–10 T-10th WNIT Second Round
2012-13 Cincinnati 12–18 4–12 13th
Cincinnati Bearcats (American Athletic Conference) (2013–2018)
2013-14 Cincinnati 13–18 5–13 8th
2014-15 Cincinnati 8–23 4–14 9th
2015-16 Cincinnati 8–22 4–14 9th
2016-17 Cincinnati 16–14 7–9 5th
2017-18 Cincinnati 19–13 10–6 4th WNIT First Round
Cincinnati: 113–162 (.411) 46–104 (.307)

I think this was another Microphone Thomas disaster

At the very least the last two years show a positive trend. Hopefully that will attract some good candidates. No reason UC women's basketball can't regularly compete for second in this conference and some tournament bids.

Whit Babcock gave her a 6 year extension in 2012 at that salary.

What a joke. Half a mil. Who is making these decisions.

I think the results the past two years were the result in an uptick in talent mostly brought in by former assistant Kia Damon. Damon came in from Penn State and brought in Shanice Johnson who was the top Juco in the country and personally recruited the one girl who was conference freshman player of the year this year. She left before the year to become HV at Lafeyette University. I would not be surprised if she is in the running to replace Elliott

RE: Jamelle Elliot Let Go - vabearcat - 03-21-2018 08:12 PM

Jamelle Elliott's dismissal has been in the works for some time. It just never worked out for her at UC, but that was largely her own doing as she had the resources to compete more effectively and was just unable to do so. She couldn't recruit top local talent and didn't relate well to her players. UC has a couple of replacements in mind and each would be an upgrade. UC gaining respectability in women's hoops is an important piece of the puzzle in the conference realignment equation.

Seems to have done wonders for UConn
