7 college basketball coaches on the hot seat (and 4 others to watch)
Pat Forde,Yahoo Sports•February 19, 2018

"…Memphis (8). Tubby Smith’s two years at Memphis haven’t been quite as disastrous as Kevin Stallings at Pitt, but it’s in the low-rent neighborhood. The Tigers did show some life last week with two road wins, getting back to .500 in the American, but this team remains a long way from NCAA tourney contention and next year looks bad, too. Still, it would cost in the neighborhood of $9 million to get rid of Tubby, and Memphis doesn’t sit on piles of football cash.

How good is the job: This is a basketball town with very good local talent and a fan base that will back a winner. But it’s not fool-proof, as the boom-and-bust cycles of the past three decades have shown. If Smith stays, he will begin 2018-19 under more heat than any coach."

Pat Forde doesn't know anything. Just ask the sheeple.

So does he think Memphis is a good job?

So does he think Memphis is a good job?

- Basketball town
- Fertile recruiting ground
- Top 10 facilities

What do you think?

What do you think?

He only stated two of those things. And we are top 20, not top ten. We need better dorms.

RE: Another Memphis mention in this weeks' Forde article - Joe1 - 02-20-2018 03:25 PM

Maybe Tubby wants to skip town due to the obvious hot seat next season. Because it’s get to the tournament or he’s gone. It’s a gamble unless the next Andre Turner and Keith Lee show up. It might be prudent to get out of dodge and not risk it.

What do you guys think?

RE: Another Memphis mention in this weeks' Forde article - snowtiger - 02-20-2018 03:28 PM

I think any article that doesn't say the fans are at fault for not giving Tubby more time is uplifting.

Isn’t Forde the guy who Gary Parrish gave a high five right after Chalmers hit the shot that crushed our soul?

Correct but I think it was more of a shot at Cal than Memphis.

I think it's a lot of wishful thinking that Tubby will give up a nickel of his contract $$ willingly.

Like I said, dignity does have some value attached to it. The only question is what that number is. If you tell Tubby he is fired and he gets his full $9 million or he resigns and you throw out a number between $6-7 million, I think you have a good shot at him taking it.

GP likes to always claim on the air that he isn't like the common fans because he doesn't take things so personally. Cal must have really gotten under GP's skin if GP hated Cal so much that it caused GP to openly root against his alma mater in the NC game.

Does this high fiving exist on video? So many cameras at F4 that maybe it’s in the background of one.

I don't think he will. Why would he? Still, maybe someone will want him gone bad enough to put up the money to hire a new coach.

We can only hope but I really doubt it.

Maybe the Russians could get Tubby fired.
