Monarch NCAA Stats - mac - 02-19-2018 04:10 PM
I've been posting stats for a bit now. Thought I would put together a little list of various stats where we rank right now, just for the heck of it. And look at Ahmad. Even better then I thought and I thought he was doing great!
#4- Scoring defense
#4- Fewest Turnovers
#6- Turnover Margin
#9- Turnovers per game
#13- Assist to turnover margin
#14- Fewest fouls
#16- Scoring Margin
#21- Won/loss percentage
#25- Field Goal % Defense
#30- Personal Fouls per game

Here's something to think about. The only guard in the country that plays at least 75% of his team's minutes, has a 25% assist rate, and has a lower turnover rate than Ahmad Caver is Villanova's Jalen Brunson. Brunson is a freakin' All-American.

Those are some great looking numbers. Ahmad has mastered the technique of back-tapping the dribbler as he goes by. I wonder if he gets credit for those steals since he is not usually the one that ends up with the ball. He could probably be credited with even more than he already is.
I do have some questions about the numbers that seem like anomalies:
#4- Fewest Turnovers
#9- Turnovers per game
If I understand this correctly we are #4 in fewest total turnovers but only #9 in turnovers per game. I'm assuming both of these stats refer to turnovers we committed. Did we play fewer games than other teams in that range?
For Caver:
#3- Minutes played per game
#44- Total Minutes
Again, the only way I can explain the disparity is that he has played far less games than the other players on the list. Maybe you guys that are stats pros can explain the difference.

As for games played, we have played 26 games. 282 teams (of the 351 DI teams) have played at least 27 games, including 65 who have played 29 or more games.
With steals, it really depends on who is keeping the official stats. I think, generally, at home at least, Caver would get the credit for the steal in the situation you described.

That is pretty strong ! Caver is an outstanding PG.

JJ could not stop praising Caver post-game Saturday night. He was asked about ODU not having to rely on a single player to lead the team each night and JJ reponded that while ODU may have a different leading scorer from night to night, it is Caver that is the constant...leading the offense and the defense (JJ said he has been beating a drum lately about Caver's D...he regards Caver as the best on-ball defending guard in CUSA).

Agreed. These stats are great, but only one win came by beating a team in the Top 130 (RPI). We get two opportunities this week on the road.

You're right about that. We need to see him have one of his big time performances against the better teams in the conference. That is the one thing he is missing. As long as he doesn't try to do too much, he will be fine. This is the best we have ever seen him play.

Consistency is key in this league. So far this year, we've had it. We haven't dropped the boneheaded 250+ loss yet. I think that speaks volume's of the maturity of this team and understanding no opponent can be overlooked in this league.

He's just a twitter college basketball guy with an AP vote. He has some catchphrases such as "palpable buzz" and "death, taxes, [insert college basketball fact]". It might be more of a meme at this point.

He's the host of the podcast College Hoops Today. He is a pretty knowledgeable guy, but his phrases are pretty irritating.
