Oh well, I have to get a little work done once in a while between Bearcat sporting events. This one was really fun. Great crowd, genuine baseball weather and you could tell the elementary school kids--maybe 1,400 in all, were having a blast (We would have too if it meant a day out of the old schoolhouse!).

It's always a joy to blow out old OSU, regardless of the sport. Buckeye fans are pretty full of themselves. Most seem to believe all things OSU are like Mary Poppins--practically perfect in every way. Talked to a couple other Bearcat fans in the stands and they were shocked to hear how much more highly ranked the AAC is as a college baseball conference than the B10.

So it's been a pretty exciting season and it would be great for folks to turn out this final weekend for a team that's showing a lot of promise. For the coming "August-like" weather; a cold beer and soft pretzel in Marge Schott Stadium sounds like a winner. Go 'Cats!

I spoke with a osu fan yesterday. He was high on osu baseball until he heard UC smoked them. The narrative then became who cares about baseball, only fball and basketball count. UC does very well against osu in baseball. Let's hope this carries over into basketball next season.

There's no sense arguing with guys like that. If/when UC wins next year, you'll hear that it was UC's "Superbowl" and OSU was not taking it seriously because it was the first game of the year. Ditto if/when UC beat s the Buckeyes in football someday.

If UC does not get NCAA invite will we will we get an NIBBT invite?

I would bet 95% of OSU fans don't even know the two schools play in baseball. Nobody in my office over the last 5 years has once even mentioned OSU Baseball, but we talk Reds, and Indians all the time.

College baseball is a super niche sport in Ohio.

Bearcats roll #20 South Florida 10-7.

Schedule change with a doubleheader today; no game tomorrow. Not sure if this is weather related but I'm guessing both teams look forward to an extra day off before the AAC championship next week.

Go 'Cats!

Our guys have had hot bats of late, particularly Manny Rodriguez, Kyle Mottice, Connor McVey and Cole Murphy. We are going to need it today as I believe we will be facing their ace and 2nd best pitcher. USF has some power in their lineup as well.

And I suspect both teams may try to save their better pitchers for next week if they possibly can. So these could turn into slugfests (weather permitting).

Looks like you were right... currently 6-4 Bulls in the 4th. This one is turning into a beer softball league slugfest.

I think the USF pitcher is one of their regular starters. And he's only given up 3 hits. Luckily for UC they have all been HR's.

RE: 2018 Bearcat Baseball Thread - OKIcat - 05-23-2018 07:28 AM

I wouldn't mind being in Clearwater today for the tourney, but duty calls here on the home front.

Here's hoping the Bearcats take it to UCONN and prove to be the surprise team in the AAC. Tough final home series with USF, but overall we saw some excellent play from UC down the stretch. Regardless, I like the new coach and feel the program has tremendous upside potential in what appears to be a top three conference.

Attending some home games this season, one thing puzzled me. I couldn't find any recognition of Sandy Koufax anywhere in Marge Schott Stadium. From what I understand, he's a humble man. But how can a Hall of Fame player of his stature not be recognized in our stadium in some way?

Go 'Cats!

RE: 2018 Bearcat Baseball Thread - Bearcat2012 - 05-23-2018 08:23 AM

Due to weather concerns this week in Clearwater they are double dipping today

UC vs. UConn at 1230p today followed by a game vs. Wichita St or USF . Win one to live another day . Lose both closes the book on the 2018 season . The Bearcats are 28-26

RE: 2018 Bearcat Baseball Thread - cpawstoney - 05-23-2018 02:25 PM

U.C. down 6-2 going into the ninth against UCONN

RE: 2018 Bearcat Baseball Thread - cpawstoney - 05-23-2018 02:43 PM

Game over ... U.C. lost 6-2

RE: 2018 Bearcat Baseball Thread - bearcatseminole - 05-23-2018 03:30 PM

Has the elimination game against USF started yet? I can't find the live stats anywhere...here's to hoping still.

I saw i was scheduled to start at 5:00 PM.

UC is still without a league tourney win since 2008. It would be nice to at least end that drought.

UC loses to USF 9-4 in the elimination game.

This is a crazy stat

RE: 2018 Bearcat Baseball Thread - OKIcat - 05-24-2018 06:51 AM

We're well conditioned to early exits in the postseason. I had hoped this team might surprise us.

On balance, I suppose this 2018 club exceeded expectations with a winning regular season record and victories against ranked teams (IU, USF, ECU, UCONN) and a pasting of OSU.

Overall, I'm encouraged by Googins and where he might take this program in one of the best baseball conferences in the country. My first year as a season ticket holder for baseball and I'll be back for more next year.

RE: 2018 Bearcat Baseball Thread - Banter - 05-24-2018 07:14 AM

Well we were 15-41 in 2015. We have been about a .500 team since. I forget when the last coach took over for the guy who was mediocre for 20 years at UC, but the trend seems to be going upward the past 3 years. It seems we have been building an actual team instead of just having one or two good players carry the squad.
