Northeastern #2 - dan10 - 02-15-2018 07:16 AM

Our troops take on NU this evening. We surprised them at home and now have the second game up in Boston. I still do not think we match up well at all against them, a few of their fans think we are a bad matchup. Historically games have been extremely close both at home and on the road.

Vegas is thinking a rout. Obviously we are dependent upon whether Stretch plays or not. Hopefully he plays and gives us a chance for an upset. Vegas line is NU -12.5/13

DU- 71
NU- 80

i wanted the halftime score to be 41-33. they should have fouled the 3 point shot.

RE: Northeastern #2 - EvanJ - 02-15-2018 09:52 PM

Northeastern won 75-69. Pusica and Isabell tied for the most points with 24. Isabell made 10 out of 17 field goals, but he had only 5 rebounds and no assists.

RE: Northeastern #2 - fredsavage - 02-16-2018 07:57 AM

one way or another, this team will be back in philly by sunday of the caa tournament.

literally the only thing that will change between march 5 and november 5 is that a few more die hard supporters will fall away from the program. those that remain will continue to blindly support the negligence and mismanagement.

cycle repeats.

^past ~20 years of drexel basketball.

I find it interesting that you post this after a single digit loss on the road to a tough team (best team in CAA by KenPom), in which Drexel beat the spread. They're not going to beat teams like W&M on the road all the time, even in a good year; I don't know what you expected.

The last remaining games are @Hofstra, vs. Delaware, and vs. UNCW. 2-1 in this stretch is well within reach, which would put them at 13-18 for the season, and 7-11 in CAA play, and probably a 7 seed. Considering the circumstances of the program during the coaching transition, I'll gladly take that improvement.

RE: Northeastern #2 - fredsavage - 02-16-2018 08:33 AM

regardless of yesterday's outcome, do you have any reason to believe that anything i said is untrue?

- will this team make it past 2 games in the caat?
- will there be any meaningful changes / improvements to the program heading into next season?
- will the net flow of fans be positive or negative?

RE: Northeastern #2 - dan10 - 02-16-2018 09:25 AM

When we pushed it late to a 3 point game I thought we were going to complete another comeback. Pusica followed that run up with a dagger 3 that about put this one away. NU was the better team but every time they stretched it to 8-10 we seemed like we had answers. Without Williams we made a nice run but still struggled getting stops. A lot of silly turnovers throughout, but we had very active hands on defense as well, which was nice. The fight this team shows throughout games is impressive and a really nice change of pace. We will be a tough out for anyone as long as we get stretch healthy for the CAAT.

I will take the bait just because.

- Probably not, but not totally unrealistic either. We were predicted last place and are looking at a 7th place finish. If you expected 2 CAAT tournaments wins this season you were borderline delusional. Like how you didnt put it at 1 win because you are fully aware we likely will win one and you didnt want to look totally foolish if we dont flame out immediately

- Year 3 of a new coach and 2nd full year of recruiting, so yes we will continue along the path post making a coaching change which means the program will continue forward. Not sure what changes you are truly seeking here

- Positive because we will win more games which will bring more fans.

However, you can go back on your soapbox now.

Your average attendance is 970. If it doesn't go up, you will be the first CAA team to average under 1,000 since Georgia State averaged 915 in 2010-2011. The CAA has statistics going back to 2005-2006, and that's the only time a team averaged under 1,000.

RE: Northeastern #2 - fredsavage - 02-16-2018 10:38 AM

drexel basketball strategy - hit rock bottom so the only place to go is up.

970 ... negligent.

I'll side with Dan on this.

With three rematches remaining, we've beaten every team in this conference except Towson, and we really should have beaten them. Granted, all but one of those have been at home, but we've hung with Charleston on the road with no Stretch and hung with Northeastern last night despite turning the ball over on nearly a quarter of our possessions. Three games in the CAAT=Semis, nobody was predicting that going into the season, but there's no reason we shouldn't grab one and give whoever we play in the second a close game.

Here are our records in Bru's last three years and the first two incomplete years for Spiker:

16-14, 8-8
11-19, 9-9
6-25, 3-15
9-23, 3-15
11-17, 5-10

If we take care of business at home and go 2-1, that gets us to 13-18, 7-11. Not exciting, not good, but an appearance that Bru's last and Spiker's first years were a bottoming in terms of performance. Now, in KenPom's rankings, we've been hovering in the 245-255 range these past four seasons, so maybe we haven't begun to climb back up yet. I'll add that I'm scared to death of having Stretch graduate and seeing us make improvements next year, but we've got two unknowns in Butler and Perry and a couple of open spots still to fill. Also, and this is totally a gut call, it wouldn't surprise me if we see someone transfer out.

It's year two of a major rebuild that includes the team and the DACPack. Going to have to be patient.

OK BMF,
A few weeks ago, I called you a troll, and you got all offended and posted a very offensive photo shopped picture as your defense. Pretty immature IMO.

So if you're not a troll and truly care about the direction of Drexel Athletics...I'm going to ask you one simple question.

What have you done to try to make the program better? Have you made donations? Have you written letters? What have you done?

Realize that while some of what you are posting is ignorant and wrong, some of what you're posting is actually accurate. But everybody else who has posted here has realized that whining on a message board doesn't make things better, so we have chosen to move on and focus on other things....

So without getting defensive, please answer my question. What have you done to try to make the program better?

RE: Northeastern #2 - DrachenFire - 02-16-2018 01:03 PM

Fred is not BMF (at least, I'm 99.99% sure he isn't).

So why do you stick around?

RE: Northeastern #2 - hiroshimacarp - 02-16-2018 08:39 PM

i agree with others that this is already a successful season. i thought we'd get trampled through the entire caa schedule. we've actually been competitive for the most part. last night's game might have been closer if stretch (as everybody calls him) hadn't gotten run over.

spiker's starting to prove that he might be able to coach up diamond in the rough kind of recruits. he'll need some interior players ASAP though. i actually saw kararinas move well enough to play defense last night. spiker is coach of the century if he turns that kid into something.

if he can patch together a winning season next year then land some quality recruits...we have a chance.
