Clemson Opening Series - Tribeheart - 02-13-2018 05:21 PM
Clemson ranked in three of the four preseason polls, with 12th being the highest. Picked to finish 3rd in the ACC Atlantic Division. Looks like they lost five of their All ACC players, but return All ACC OF Seth Beer and All ACC Rookie SS Logan Davidson.
Clemson lost in the championship final of their regional last year to Vanderbilt, finishing with a 42-21 record. They won all five games against Elon and CofC last season, but we're their only CAA regular season matchup this year.
Two of their three starting rotation pitchers announced for this weekend only have bullpen experience, with only opener, lefty soph Hennessy, seeing any ACC tournament and NCAA Regional action last year. The third starter had 7 starts as a freshman, but redshirted last year. They return none of their starting pitchers from 2017.

A scouting report on Haney from March of last year that was posted on Prep Baseball Report:
“Athletic projectable frame beginning to fill out. Pitched from the stretch only today. Loose quick arm action throwing from a high three-quarter slot. Stayed on target through finish with roll off to the first base side after release. Fastball was 86-89 mph pitching with regular effort. Breaking ball has sharper, 11/5 action on the pitch at 74-77 mph which he showed good command of. Was a bit inconsistent in this early start with fastball command, but used competitiveness to get through it.”
That was basically a year ago - I bet he is even better now.

76 degrees in Clumson, and calling for scattered rain, but radar looks like the rain band is holding off to the west. Games this weekend scheduled for broadcast on the ACCNetwork.

Speed demon is freshman McDermott. Gets the run from first on Pearson's liner down the left field line and Pearson follows him up to third on the thowout attempt at the plate. Go Tribe!!
