Andy Kennedy resigning from Ole Miss - BlazerMatt - 02-12-2018 01:27 PM

He is expected to coach out the season. I doubt he is without a job for long.

hmmmmm... very interesting

Maybe i shouldn’t make suggestions this time around since I was clearly wrong the last time.

2 NCAA tournaments in 12 years isn't great, but 6 of those years in which they went to the NIT they were on the bubble. Leaves as the school record holder in wins.

I highly doubt we'd make a coaching change after Ehsan's 2nd year, but AK would be a perfect candidate for the seasoned assistant coach we've all been clamoring for. He probably can get a better gig, but maybe returning to his alma mater would be worth something to him.

Kennedy has accomplished an amazing job at what the toughest jobs In the country. Only Kentucky and Florida have more SEC wins in his tenure there. 12 years is an eternity in one job these days.

Rumors in Memphis is that Ole Miss will go after Penny Hardaway who is Ryan Boyce's high school coach and has S the #1 player for 2019 on his team. Also rumors that Calipari might hire Penny as an assistant at Kentucky.

Let’s get him

RE: Andy Kennedy resigning from Ole Miss - Memphis Blazer - 02-12-2018 02:40 PM

1. We have a coach.
2. We can't afford him
3. There may be skeletons.

RE: Andy Kennedy resigning from Ole Miss - BlazerMatt - 02-12-2018 02:43 PM

I would absolutely love if Andy would come here, but to be honest, we can't afford him. He's making 2 million a year now, probably wouldn't want to take less than 1 million at a new gig.

CUSA is a one bid league. Hasse won 27 games and we were not even in the conversation for an at large bid.

It would be hard for us to justify paying that much to a coach when we can't count on NCAA tourney money, and don't have the attendance to cover the costs without it.

Creates an interesting scenario but I doubt anything more than that. Now if things continue to head south this year with next year no better and AK is still unemployed at that point, then I think you will have a realistic scenario where this could happen. This year I just don’t see it.

So, we're about to have another Demarcus Cousins scenario....

The difference being that Cousins and Wall were already committed to Memphis where James Wiseman is a highly sought after recruit.

Memphis fans want to hire Penny Hardaway so bad they can taste it, but Tubby's buyout is $10 mil. You would have thought they learned their lesson with Pastner's buyout. Georgia Tech bailed them out, but they made the same mistake again with Tubby.

Calipari stole John Wall and Demarcus Cousins from Memphis. Then he stole their snow cone machine. Now he's about to steal Penny Hardaway from them.

Is Scott Rigot available as well?

Untrue. Tommy West defended the snow cone machine, and thwarted Calipari's evil plan. The only time a Tommy West defense has ever thwarted any offensive plan.

LOLOL, 58-56.

I think I'll tip on over to MT.com and catch the early stages of the meltdown.

It's not nearly as unbalanced as it will be if Penny goes to Kentucky. The word is that he has repeatedly said that he does not want an AC job, HC or nothing. MT.org is certain that he won't take any assistant job.

Personally, I think that there are far worse first lines in a coaching resume than "Assistant Coach, University of Kentucky". The question is will the Squid hire him, get the recruits, and then flush him, or will it be a real job.

I don’t think we have any room to pick on them anymore considering how this place has been lately.

RE: Andy Kennedy resigning from Ole Miss - UABfan1 - 02-12-2018 08:49 PM

AK will make a lot as a part time TV guy.

What I like about him is as he was failing this year, he took responsibility for it and didn't try to dodge it.

I doubt he would even consider an assistants job at a CUSA level school.

And I'm not sure I would want him in 2 years of Ehsan does not pull things together.

And, in a few years he will probably get a head coaching gig at the AAC level.
