If the kids are eligible and agree to play by the rules, they should be considered.

If not ODU, someone else is going to take advantage of this talent and there lies the problem with this "moral standard" argument. In the end, not one football program gives 2 ***** about your moral standards. The goal for everyone is winning. If you don't win, fans aren't happy and someone gets fired.

As of right now, I would rather have a few former 3 and 4 star transfers on our roster than a clean kid whose only other offer was from Robert Morris. That's just life in college football.

Like I said, I'll let the coaches handle the dirty work, I just want ODU to win.

So if a guy is dismissed from his former team for domestic violence, you’re fine with him at ODU as long as he agrees to not hit anyone else.

and the 6-10 who have quietly disappeared over the past 3-4 years over 'character issues' including one this week.

I'm not an alum, but I'd still prefer ODU football still not have the stigma of Miami or FAU, thanks. Plenty of strong and smart kids out there, and we've just put ourselves in a better position to recruit them (stadium, Stiney, etc) so I'll personally pass on a kid who on his 5th chance still can't get his **** together.

ETA: That said, there is a middle ground for a kid who hasn't made a career out of character issues, who acknowledges is mistake and is humble and contrite. We all are supposed to learn from our mistakes, and we do need to give these kids room for that, but in my mind at least, there's a line.

I know you're trying to be cute, but I wasn't advocating lowering the code of conduct to allow a kid in the system.

As fans, we won't be talking to these potential transfers or their parents so we can't really evaluate them

I don't think any player would be seeking a 5th chance, let alone a 3rd or 4th.

I will say again, if Coach Wilder and company feel like taking a chance on a talented 3, 4 or 5 star who was dismissed from a team, I will support that decision.

Find me 3, 4, and 5 stars who aren’t dismissed from their team for behavioral reasons. Guys aren’t getting booted because they are late to meetings.

You left this out.

Our Rules

Taking a kid in who's been dismissed from a program will no doubt draw the ire of fans like you. So the coaches will have some explaining to do, that's what I meant by handling the dirty work.

This is more in line with my thinking.

Good Luck.

Commit from a Tanner Addams. On twitter

6'3" 220 lb linebacker from Monacan. Committed to Army last summer. We must have flipped him. Wonder if new staff had anything to do with this?

If you had the option to go to school and play football 2 hours from home versus 8 hours from home, what do you think you would choose? I think it's hard for the service academies to keep commits who get other offers unless the kid is already looking to go into the military as a career path.

I don't know. If you have the chance to go to West Point or the Naval Academy you are pretty much set for life. That network is STRONG and they look out for each other. On the other hand, if your priority is football first, then I can see your point. But there are few bigger stages to play on than the A vs N game.
