Just wait a few more years and it becomes a job by default.

Does anybody else picture Rowley laughing and smiling while reading law books? He just exudes joy. Watching the Elon post game and he cannot contain his happiness. If you bring that kind of joy into everything you do, it rubs off on those around you.

Yes, he was definitely having a good time at that post-game conference.

Watching those things frustrates me, though, because you can never hear the question. You can hear the answer and infer the question but sometimes that is not as easy as it sounds.

I am going to borrow from one of my other most beloved teams for more than 50 years. Paul is the Hunter Pence of Tribe basketball. If you cannot smile when you watch Paul, you must not be able to smile at all. I watched the post game press conference before I went to bed, and Paul was priceless, a wonderful contrast to Justin's more business like approach. His unbridled joy when one of the writers brought up Justin's stats for the game just reinforced my view that Paul might just be the greatest teammate that has ever played Tribe basketball. Paul, David, and Nate all just seem to have a wonderful love of life.

And that is why Paul is my 10 yr old daughter's favorite player. She just loves that he loves the game so much. Also, she is very optimistic about the tournament this year. She has no knowledge at all of the history of the Tribe program. Our whole household is enjoying each game though. Clearly, we all have healthy hearts too because the Tribe tests that each game.

I just hope we keep our energy and focus, we have played much better since Justin and Connor looked miserable at the Northeastern press conference. Tribe17 said it last night, Pierce was like at NBA Jam character last night. Let's hope we take nothing for granted for Saturday.

A little frustrating, no doubt, but definitely needed for Press Conferences. While you would like to hear the question, NO ONE in the Press wants their recorded answer to be damaged by chit-chat, or other sounds, going on in the audience. You can just about guarantee that the answer to any questions will not be as
"real", if you have to ask your subject, if they could repeat their answer to the last question. Thus, the necessity for one directional mikes.

There is no greater frustration for a reporter, who thinks he has the perfect quote for his broadcast/podcast, than to get back and realize that the answer is marred by someone discussing something like the pre-game meal right over top of his quote (definitely speaking from experience here).

The solution, in big time arenas, is to have someone hand a live mike to the questioner and then turn it off after the question is asked, but that requires a larger staff than is generally available to most schools like W&M.

RE: Article on Rowley and law school - Mrs. Got Ribe - 02-02-2018 09:58 AM

Or maybe just superimpose the topic on the video, like they do for away post game comments. This has been brought up to me before. Maybe I'll send an email to Kris Sears to see if this is something he can do. It would help a lot.

Thanks Billymac. Yes, the solution you cite above is what I think would solve the problem but I also understand your caveat to it. Plus, really, how many people are at a W&M post-game conference anyway? (More, I assume, now that we are playing well than would be there if we were 5-18)!

You can't help but smile when you are around him. When he came out of the game last night, Mr. Ribe and I said, "Good job, Paul--way to play" (or something like that, like we do for all the guys), and he said "Thank you" in his happy-go-lucky way as he headed back to his seat. He is such a joy!

RE: Article on Rowley and law school - Zorch - 02-02-2018 10:23 AM

Watching yesterday's game on the computer, I saw a great follow-up dunk (by Pierce, I believe). But in the background I saw you, Mrs. Got Ribe, out of your chair and actually facing the wall behind you in your glee and exultation at the jam.

I'm not sure that I could stand to have such visible seats (especially if the Tribe was losing). Keep up the great support (since y'all are the ones on camera)!!!!

Yeah, I noticed that, as well.
Made me think I should come dressed as their Butler, one night, with long black tuxedo and white towel draped over my arm. I could stand right behind them all night, waiting to answer their every request.
It would make people watching think that they are very wealthy alumni and would get me plenty of air-time, if nothing else.

Billymac, you wouldn't have to do anything--I'd just like to see you in a long black tuxedo!

It is so much fun being down on the court. You really appreciate the level of effort put out by these guys. And, the camaraderie on the bench is great to see.

That pass by Cohn and dunk by Pierce was incredible. I don't think the replays do it justice. The bench reaction to that was priceless--guys hanging onto each other with awe.

Spencer let my wife and I sit down there one game back when they very first started experimenting with it. Before they had tables, etc. It was incredibly neat being down there. You guys are fortunate (and it is well deserved).
