Ehh....
I like Magnum PI more so than the other Hawaiian police drama Hawaii Five-0 (original). I just enjoyed it more and yes, that Ferrari helped a lot LOL. I hope it can keep the spirit of the original because I thought the original cast's ties to Vietnam and then also being in Hawaii with the American, Asian, and Hawaiian mix of people also made it work against that Pearl Harbor and Vietnam war backdrop to most of the character's stories.
I know I watched some episodes of Gagney and Lacy but I don't have any distinct memories of the show other that Tyne Daily was the stand out character.

Some of these remakes just don't cut it like the originals. The new McGuyver isn't the same as the old one with Richard Dean Anderson. Some of these shows can't really be the same with another actor. Magnum P.I. was all Tom Selleck and John Hillerman there isn't anybody that I can think of that can play the same or better character as they did.
The one show that I'd like to see remade is Buck Rogers. Gil Gerard didn't really make the show for me and I think it could have great success like new Battlestar Galactica had.

I tried to go back and watch the old Macguyver and it's REALLY cheesy. The new one isn't bad. His security sidekick and tech person really round out the show. Before it was kind of a one man show.
In fairness, I haven't seen any of the episode of Macguyver from this season.
I completely agree about Magnum PI. Leave that one alone.

I've given up on these remakes. If they did more of a sequel or a spin-off I might be more interested. Maybe if the new guy was Magnums son from a fling with a $5 hooker and came back to confront his father only to find that Magnum died from an STD he got from the $5 hooker. If they are just going to rehash the same characters, I'll pass.

I honestly think I'd get the dvd (or BR) box set. Still ticked me off NF cut it after I had just started hitting S4.

Ok, so I caught tonight's pilot episode of the new Magnum PI. I liked some of where they went with characters and characters. I think they put a little bit better relationship out there about Robin Masters, Higgins, and Magnum.
Somehow the middle eastern background to their service in the Navy just doesn't fit with why they are in Hawaii like the older series with the Vietnam ties.
I think his military buddies are, as of episode one, really trying to figure out their characters style where as it seemed to me that the original cast, even in the first episode, had a lot more separation.

I think that magnum PI will make it. I saw the first episode and it looks promising. Anyone else have any thoughts on this show?
