Which program is most valuable to the AAC? - TIGERCITY - 01-21-2018 10:56 PM

History and 'one if a kind' Navy? Basketball championships UConn? The exclusive academic schools (Tulane, SMU, Tulsa)? Large market schools like Houston, Cincinnati, Temple, UCF, Memphis, USF et al? Or is it recent solid football (UCF) or basketball (Shockers)?

UConn has the most value right now but has a low stock.

They need a good stockbroker, I mean, coach.

I don't think there's a clear answer at this point in time. The top three are Cincinnati, UCONN, and UCF. UCONN is the closest thing we have to a blue-blood school, perception wise. They obviously need to return to playing top 25 basketball though. Cincinnati has a historic basketball program that is consistently ranked in the top 25. Football needs to return to competing for AAC titles for them to be most valuable. UCF needs to have sustained football success to be the most valuable.

I say Houston and UCF for Football bc both have carried the flag well on big stages.

In basketball Wichita State if they can make a serious tourney run

FOOTBALL- UCF and Houston with 3 major bowl wins

HOOPS- UConn with national championship and SMU with league titles and UC overall program

WOMENS HOOPS- Duh. USF distant second

BASEBALL- Tulane, ECU and Houston for advancing in NCAAs

Non Revenue- Tulsa (12 titles), SMU and USF (10 each), UCF (9), Houston (8), UConn (6) Cincy and ECU (3)

Not bad for Tulsa considering everyone else had an extra year on us except ECU.

Everyone is just kinda crabs in a bucket right now. It would be whoever excels at the major sports but no one does either consistently. Memphis is the closest to it if they can get their basketball back on track. The problem of course is that Memphis has pretty much zero football tradition, with many of their best seasons in school history coming within the last 5 years.

Varies from year to year.

Houston is known for its track and field, baseball, football and now basketball is starting to gain steam. But I don't think there is one team that represents the American.

We're all pretty great.

Winning and value are completely different things

In basketball it's UConn and its not even close. Uconn wasn't projected to be good this year and still got the most major cable spots: you can tell the value of a team by how they are treated even in failure ... In value UConn is above the rest

In football it's Houston..(I'm making it very clear I'm all judging up until the season, I have no clue how UCFs national championship will affect their worth).. it was UC and Houston when the AAC was created but I don't think the value of Cincy has sustained the last 5 years...

Houston has extremely band wagon fans but when it's good it's good... Every year Houston is pericieved as good they up insane TV rating and get tons of media fluff pieces and attention..the highest rated game in Houston (the 4th largest city in America) the last 8 years wasn't a A&m, texas or lsu game.. it was a Houston game

UCF has a fast growing brand, the nation championship talk has been gang Busters for them, but I really don't know how it affects them till we see how the media treats them next year and their TV ratings. Was the magic an undefeated team claiming a championship or UCF the brand

( Not including navy becuase we don't control the army navy game..navy without question, not even close if it was ALL of navy)

Honestly I like it the way it is and not have one or two organizations as the face of the conference like the B12. I enjoy wondering which team is going to be on top.

RE: Which program is most valuable to the AAC? - pvtlamb - 01-22-2018 06:47 AM

Overall, it might be Houston because of general athletic success, and being in a huge and growing market.

As far as value, you are looking for long term name recognition outside of AAC markets. UCONN is probably the only one that moves the needle.

Nailed it. Coupled with Husky Football = $25m per team, per year.

There are a few value tiers in the league but no real standouts or they’d be gone already

Auburn.
