Major changes coming to NCAA transfer rule? - CrimsonPhantom - 01-18-2018 01:10 PM Quote:Players could get one-time “freebie” transfer under proposed change https://www.aseaofblue.com/2018/1/18/16902124/major-changes-coming-ncaa-transfer-rule-college-basketball-2018 RE: Major changes coming to NCAA transfer rule? - NuMexAg - 01-18-2018 10:13 PM At first I thought this was just a rule designed to help the P5 schools gain more dominance over the lower levels by allowing some of the sleepers who got away to be re-recruited. After thinking about which way the transfers might go (to the P-5 or away from the P-5), I decided it would probably be about the same both ways. A number of late bloomers deciding they want to make it at a higher level, but then a number of players who want more playing time willing to transfer to a lower level to get off the bench. It certainly will increase the motivation for coaches to cheat, like you said. And I agree that it is overall good for the players, so they have a fair chance to get out of a situation that for whatever reason turned out to be bad for them. RE: Major changes coming to NCAA transfer rule? - gleadley - 01-18-2018 10:59 PM If the NCAA is genuine about doing what is in the players' best interests (BREAKING: It's not.), this is a no brainer. Somebody tried to use the Zach Lofton example with me in discussing this topic, like his situation is some negative (BREAKING: Its not.) I don't know a lot about Lofton, but here is really all that should matter: Playing basketball has afforded him the opportunity to complete one degree, and begin another. While leveraging his athletic ability to further his education, he's also become a hell of a player and multiple teams/schools have benefited from it. I fail to see the negatives here. Completely agree. Basketball for many players is a vocation, so being allowed to develop their employment by transferring, either "down" to get more playing time, or "up" to play better competition/high level is a good thing. I think many posters tend to think of this as a zero sum game and the players as "property" of their schools, rather than as young men looking to to improve themselves and find success. |
