Kent Golfers in the Pros - 2018 Edition - bopol - 01-13-2018 01:32 PM

Ok, we're off in Hawaii on the PGA tour:

* Corey Conners made the cut and is tied for 36th, while Mackenzie Hughes missed the cut by two strokes.

Conners will finish tied for 38th. Another solid effort in the 2017-18 season for Conners, who has made 7 cuts now.

Nobody from KSU has done more on the PGA Tour than Ben Curtis. Great article published today in Golf Digest.

Good luck with the next chapter of your life, Ben!

Golf has a new place in Ben Curtis’ life

04-cheers

Thanks for the article, Ax. It's funny because you don't think of golf as a game where there are a lot of injuries, but there are more and more issues as these guys and women try to extract every little bit of power out of their bodies.

In PGA news this weekend, Conners made the cut and is currently tied for 31st as the third round winds down. Hughes missed the cut.

RE: Kent Golfers in the Pros - 2018 Edition - bopol - 01-21-2018 05:26 PM

Conners will finish tied for 50th after a not so great final day.

7 straight cuts; but no top 25 finishes.

This week in PGA action: Corey Conners made the cut and is currently tied for 18th after he has finished the 3rd round of this week's event. There are golfers on the course still, but Conners is well positioned for his best finish since earning his PGA card. This is the eighth straight cut he has made.

Mackenzie Hughes missed the cut.

RE: Kent Golfers in the Pros - 2018 Edition - bopol - 01-28-2018 06:44 PM

Conners went 4 over today and fell back to a tie for 29th. 4 over wasn't particularly bad today as the course must have been playing really tough, but he did give up 11 spots. The tie for 29th will be his best finish this season.

A little catching up...

* Mackenzie Hughes missed the cut last week and this week. Conners did not play last week and missed the cut this week (first time he hasn't made the cut in nine events).

* The web.com season has started. Ryan Yip did not play the first event, but then finished in the top 10 the next two weeks for a very fast start to 2018. To give you some sense of what a difference a good finish can make, Ryan is already ahead of last year's total on money earned ($37K in 2018 so far vs. $33K in 2017).

Both Hughes and Conners made the cut at the Honda Classic and are tied for 24th at 2 over.

RE: Kent Golfers in the Pros - 2018 Edition - bopol - 02-25-2018 03:41 PM

Not the best weekend for the Kent golfers, as they both will finish near tied for 59th in the Honda Classic.

For Hughes, good to make the cut as he had missed 8 in a row. It's been a rough second year on the tour for Hughes, but he is fully exempt through the 2019 season because of his PGA tour win in '16.

For Conners, he has now made 9 of 10 cuts, which is very impressive, but his best finish is a tie for 29th and some higher finishes are going to be needed to keep his PGA Tour card.

Corey Connors shoots 4-under at Innisbrook today and is alone in first place in a strong field after the first round.

RE: Kent Golfers in the Pros - 2018 Edition - axeme - 03-09-2018 06:28 PM

Corey increased his lead to 2 today, and heads into the weekend on top. Second place? Some guy named Woods and two or three other guys.

RE: Kent Golfers in the Pros - 2018 Edition - bopol - 03-10-2018 06:34 PM

Conners had another good round and still holds the lead by one stroke. Very impressive to lead a tournament after the third round as a rookie.

Hughes missed the cut.

And on the web.com tour, Yip made the cut and is tied for 36th.

Playing with Justin Rose in the final round, behind Tiger and Snedeker. Should be a fun day.

RE: Kent Golfers in the Pros - 2018 Edition - bopol - 03-11-2018 10:14 PM

Well, Conners had a crummy day and finished 5 over, falling all the way back to a tie for 16th. On the plus side, he had three great rounds in this tournament and this is his highest finish on the Tour. There are a lot of good things to build off here.

Ryan Yip finished tied for 29th on the web.com tour.

RE: Kent Golfers in the Pros - 2018 Edition - bopol - 03-16-2018 06:41 PM

Hughes made the cut and is tied for 38th in the Arnold Palmer Invitational. Conners didn't get invited to the event.

Jennifer Ha is tied for 62nd after the first round of the Symetra Tour event.

RE: Kent Golfers in the Pros - 2018 Edition - bopol - 03-18-2018 04:56 PM

Hughes will finish tied for 54th.

Ha missed the cut.

And onto next week...

In golf this weekend,

* With the World Golf Championship event, there is a secondary event where Corey Conners is tied for 5th near the beginning of the 3rd round. Doing well doesn't have the full benefits of the PGA event (usually 1/2 the Fed Ex points that one would normally get), but Fed Ex points are Fed Ex points, so hopefully he'll have a strong weekend.

* Ryan Yip made the cut in the web.com event, but is at the back of the pack (69th at the moment).

RE: Kent Golfers in the Pros - 2018 Edition - bopol - 03-24-2018 03:45 PM

Conners had another good day and is in 2nd by himself, currently 3 shots behind the leader who is on the course.

Yip is in 70th place.

RE: Kent Golfers in the Pros - 2018 Edition - bopol - 03-25-2018 03:57 PM

Ryan Yip finished tied for 65th with a good round today, but he wasn't really far back.

Conners sadly had a rough day, falling back to a tie for 13th mostly on the last hole. Good experience, but lost about 30 Fed Ex points in the tumble.
