Laughable college basketball scores, week 9 (January 8-14) - Wedge - 01-09-2018 09:15 PM

The week starts with the mildest possible upset...

#8 Texas Tech 65
#9 Oklahoma 75

RE: Laughable college basketball scores, week 9 (January 8-14) - stever20 - 01-09-2018 10:19 PM

a bit of an upset in the Big East
Georgetown 69
St John's 66

St John's and Temple maybe the 2 most disappointing teams in conference play so far. Both had decent to good OOC seasons- but are 0-9 combined in conference play so far. And Temple gets SMU tomorrow night. And St John's next game- Villanova. Yikes.

Marquette knocks off #13 Seton Hall, 84-64.

On any given night in the Big East, anybody can beat anybody. Huge win for Marquette tonight. We needed it too, since four of our five losses are against top-10 teams.

Those teal uniforms Georgetown wore tonight? No. Just no.

Teal uniforms were great, but they need to be worn by Coastal Carolina or Wilmington. Doesn’t fit a blue collar brand like Georgetown.

Oklahoma was the home team, don't think this would qualify as an upset.

I like 'em. I don't know why you don't.

FIFY.

They're better than these. The jerseys were one thing, the shorts...03-puke

Over in the Big Ten, is it safe to pronounce Wisky's tournament chances dead? What are the chances for those like Indiana, Penn State, and Nebraska...the conference's potential midpoint?

It looks like the NBA uniforms of that era.

I think Wisconsin is pretty much done.... between only a 9-9 overall record, a 0-5 record vs tier 1 games, and a 1-6 record away from home- I think you can pretty much stick a fork in them right now.

I don't like the chances for Indiana, Penn St, or Nebraska. They are a combined 2-11 vs tier 1 games right now. That just won't get it done.

End of an era? They've made, what 20 straight NCAA Tournaments?

19 consecutive, tied with Gonzaga for 4th longest active streak. It will end this year barring a Big 10 conference tournament title.

Crazy thing is Wisconsin only had 4 NCAA tournament appearances before this current streak began in 1999. Badgers didn't make the tournament at all between 1947 and 1994.

Yep, beat me to it. It's remarkable how far they and Florida have come.

Louisville 73
#23 Florida St 69

Cardinals end the Seminoles 28-game home win streak.

Noticed Houston is playing at Texas Southern’s arena which looks nice. Its name is Health & Physical Education Arena which sounds so uninspiring for an 8100 seat stadium.

Their arena is really nice. I wish UH had played there the last 20 years.

Just as I said about Rice in another thread, it's too bad someone good hasn't played there, although Mike Davis has done a great job over the years.

Wisconsin lost a ton when Tyler Herro decommitted and then they lost out on Joey Hauser to Marquette. Recruiting is just not as high as it was under Bo Ryan with Greg Gard. They've had some injuries this year, but - looking forward - it doesn't look good. I would definitely say that Marquette has overtaken Wisconsin in recent years (Ellenson, Hausers) for in-state basketball recruiting. It has reflected on the floor as well.

Plus Marquette’s new arena next year.

Went to Bradley Center for XU/MU and thought it was nicer than United Center. Can’t believe that’s getting knocked down.

I wouldn't necessarily say Wisconsin's recruiting has gotten any worse, I do think Marquette's has gotten better under Wojo than it was under Buzz Williams.

Even under Bo, Wisconsin would rarely have more than a single 4 star recruit in a class, several classes with none. Dekker was a 5 star, but that is the huge exception. Frank Kaminsky, Ethan Happ, Nigel Hayes...all 3 star recruits mostly not even top 150 prospects nationally.

Here are where the top 5 players in Wisconsin have gone over the last 5 classes, the top kid in the state has only stayed in state once.

2018 - Kentucky, Marquette, West Virginia, Iowa State, Santa Clara
2017 - Iowa State, Wisconsin, Seton Hall (walk-on), South Dakota State, Northern Illinois
2016 - Marquette, Dayton, Illinois, Northern Iowa, UW Green Bay
2015 - Maryland, Marquette, Wisconsin, Marquette, Iowa State
2014- UCLA, Marquette, Vanderbilt, Buffalo, Wisconsin
