AT&T - Quite the Dichotomy - Redwingtom - 12-27-2017 09:59 AM Quote:The AT&T boss — citing a mountain of cash the telecom giant will keep because of Trump’s tax cuts — said this week that AT&T will pay out $200 million to employees by awarding 200,000 of its rank-and-file year-end bonuses of $1,000 each. Quote:Meanwhile, however, a slew of AT&T layoffs nationwide looks poised to claim casualties running into the thousands. As The Post reported this week, AT&T fired more than 700 cable installers earlier this month. Quote:From Jan. 31, 2016 to Jan. 31, 2017 AT&T employment fell by 5 percent from 281,000 to 268,000, according to public filings. Quote:AT&T last year showed its financial support for the Trump administration donating $2.1 million to his inauguration, according to public records. Quote:Still, Trump’s Department of Justice last month sued to block AT&T’s $85 billion deal to buy the Time Warner deal. Quote:Some speculate this week’s announcements about bonuses and jobs are a bid to curry favor with the White House.AT&T boss touts big employee bonuses amid job cuts RE: AT&T - Quite the Dichotomy - TigerBlue4Ever - 12-27-2017 10:14 AM AT&T has been laying off people for the last 5 years at least. One of the morning mantras we used to have to endure was that if our skillsets weren't up to speed for the new AT&T then we stood a good chance of being unemployed by the year 2020. The use of copper wire is all but dead so it stands to reason that if your only skillset is the installation of it then you won't maintain employment for long. AT&T's Uverse sucks so it also stands to reason that if your job is to install a ****** product you wont be employed for long. Also, when one is laid off from AT&T their name goes into a job bank and they are able to apply for other jobs for up to a year while being paid IIRC. Workforce reduction has been an aim of AT&T's for longer than this POTUSes term. Nice try though. RE: AT&T - Quite the Dichotomy - Marc Mensa - 12-27-2017 10:29 AM AT&T will benefit tremendously from the repeal of Net Neutrality, too. 2018 should be a good year for Ma Bell. Not much demand for landline and cable installers. But you knew that before you posted. You're just ![]() ![]() ing

I just presented some interesting facts. One of which is senior executives believing that a 30% reduction in employees by 2020 is not out of the question. Weak. Part of the issue with corporate America in a lot of industries IS specifically the fact that technology is actually reducing the need for more employees in some areas. RE: AT&T - Quite the Dichotomy - Marc Mensa - 12-27-2017 11:09 AM Why is the demand for cable installers down? It would seem there would still be a need for internet service, particularly in rural areas and the cable connection is better and faster than the alternatives. RE: AT&T - Quite the Dichotomy - Bull_Is_Back - 12-27-2017 11:46 AM (12-27-2017 11:09 AM)Marc Mensa Wrote: Why is the demand for cable installers down? Because (1) The demand for cable is trending down, (2) The effort to install cables on a home that already has it is minimal and the past 20 years has seen a lot of cable laid, (3) the competing technologies are rapidly bridging the gap in terms of consumer performance. RE: AT&T - Quite the Dichotomy - DavidSt - 12-27-2017 12:05 PM It shows what a bunch of bunk of horse manure the Republicans force on us. The last few times that the corporate get the tax cuts and tax holidays? They give the CEOs and execs a huge pay raises and buy out the stocks on their companies to inflate their prices. At the same time, they fired or laid off 100,000 of employees. The American people are not idiots, and they see the tax cuts is a reward for these big business to lay more people off, and outsource their businesses to other countries. Unemployment is down and workforce participation is up and the actual underemployment rate is better than it's been since before the 2007 recession. Tell me again how that's horse manure. Quote:The American people are not idiots, and they see the tax cuts is a reward for these big business to lay more people off, and outsource their businesses to other countries. As the employment picture get's better and people start taking home more of their pay check you're going to see them wake up with regards as to the horse crap being sold to them by the left. These are the Republicans of the establishment side that past these bills, and they have not worked in the past. This makes no sense, none at all... moving on Quote:There are many Americans who are still unemployed. Umm nobody said there were not. What I said was the numbers are going down (unemployment) and up (work force participation) Do you dispute those numbers? At all? Because I hate to use this term, it seems like you're gaslighting here. What percent of GDP were corporate income tax revenues in 1967? What percent of GDP were corporate income tax revenues in 2016? What percent of GDP were payroll tax revenues in 1967? Why pick 1967..... because it was before we had a largely global economy? Why not choose 2011, you know - year 3 of the Obumble presidency? RE: AT&T - Quite the Dichotomy - Fo Shizzle - 12-27-2017 04:41 PM This POTUS could schit gold bricks and give them out to everyone and the left would instantly develop a gold allergy.
