Ohio State was rightly knocked out of the play offs due to their bad loss against Iowa, but UCF's case shows that the playoff system needs to be expanded.

Time to use all the NY6 bowls and expand the play off system to 8 teams. Keep the current system for the two semifinal games rotating NY6 bowls every year and use the remaining four NY6 bowls to host quarterfinal games. Then give the P5 Conference Champions automatic bids, then two at-large spots for the next two highest ranking schools P5 or otherwise, and finally reserve the 8th spot for the highest ranking G5 Conference school. If you don't give the G5 schools a shot at the national title, you might as well split the FBS into two divisions and have two title games because it makes no sense that G5 schools don't even get a chance otherwise.

Or maybe, 6 team, playoffs.

Top two get byes and the next 4 play to advance. A little like what we see in the men's basketball tourney. Those games could be played around Dec 20 (that weekend.

Pretty simple: You MUST win your CONFERENCE or you are not chosen.

I agree UCF deserved a chance to play on and IF they won the play-in game they'd got to play one of the top two seeds.

That would be really, really good for ALL in FBS football. Chance to produce a real Cinderella to make the 'Final Four' in CFB.

P.S. Will anyone in California, Washington, Ohio, Michigan, Texas, Pennsylvania, etc. want to watch Alabama vs. Georgia, two SEC teams? I won't bother to watch a SEC match-up.

Texas A&M is in SEC. The Tide has at least a dozen players from Texas on their roster. so I think you can cross Texas off that list. You can figure a number of Toledo fans will watching since Saban is a former Rocket HC. Same with some OSU fans, because they have benefited from the Championship Playoff system. I think once they totally separate G5 from P5. they will go for an expanded playoff system.
