RE: Virginia State House control to be decided via random drawing - Niner National - 12-21-2017 12:08 PM Seems like a bad method. Can't we have some kind of a test on state law, or better yet, a duel? RE: Virginia State House control to be decided via random drawing - solohawks - 12-21-2017 12:14 PM STEEL CAGE MATCH! At least we get to eliminate one person off the face of the earth that wants to be a politician. RE: Virginia State House control to be decided via random drawing - rath v2.0 - 12-21-2017 12:26 PM The better kind of random drawing to determine this would be to see who can draw the best turtle like in the back of the old school TV Guide to see if you were qualified for some shady art school. The pirate turtle would be hard to beat. RE: Virginia State House control to be decided via random drawing - dawgitall - 12-21-2017 12:27 PM They threw out a ballot that had both candidates filled in with a mark threw one of the candidates name. Then a judge ruled that the ballot should be counted, thus the tie. The judge evidently can read minds. Ha, I actually know both of them and they are both decent people. The dem has never held office (I don't know her well aside from small talk but we have some mutual friends that would lead me to believe she is good people) and the rep has held the seat for about 6 years. If he has made any additional money off of graft, he is hiding it well. He lives in my neighborhood, makes decent money selling real estate, and lives very modestly in about a 2,000 sq ft home built in the 1940s and an average car (I think an Accord). RE: Virginia State House control to be decided via random drawing - HeartOfDixie - 12-21-2017 12:34 PM That's pretty funny. RE: Virginia State House control to be decided via random drawing - rath v2.0 - 12-21-2017 12:35 PM Why don’t they go through the voter logs and see if any votes came from people who are dead, are not citizens, have no right to vote or who have residence in another state. Maybe just limit it to absentee ballots which are easily connected. Betcha that would have broken the tie. Is VA a voting ID state? Hmmm voted for ever R on the ballot and put a line through the D that they had accidentally filled in. You don't really need to read minds to understand the intent.

They were also tallied on a whiteboard for the hand count (some 23k total votes) and there is really no guarantee there is no human error in that process (even a single vote error would have swung it). Frankly, if another vote cannot be conducted, the coin-flip is probably appropriate. I highly doubt there is any fraud. Look at the governor's race. There is a mark threw the one they voted for. Reading intend is a slippery slope. The judge evidently can read minds.Happens everyday, constantly Very few judicial opinions do not rely at least in part upon the judge’s belief about the motivation, intent, or state-of-mind of some other individual. Frankly I don’t think judges should have that kind of power except in extremis — and this little tiff in Virginia doesn’t even come close — but they do. They use that kind of power all the time, and most people at least go along with it if they don’t actually approve of it. Made by a judge, as it should have been. And, btw, slippery slope is a fallacy in this instance. Was all the 10 vote swing from contested ballots or was some / all of it from an incorrect count? Also what is the ratio on the county election board? There were already several judgement calls going the other way that got her the 1 vote lead to begin with. This story has been ongoing since election night. You are only seeing this piece of it.
