Kent State vs. Oregon State - fallsdog - 12-21-2017 07:34 AM

The Flashes get the rare opportunity to host a power five program tonight at 7pm when the Beavers of Oregon State visit the Memorial Athletic and Convocation Center. Oregon State is 8-3 and coming off a win over Saint Louis.

The Beavers non conference slate includes wins and losses against a handful of solid mid majors. They seem to be about 9 deep and like most PAC 12 schools they have plenty of size and length to keep opponents busy. No doubt that the Flashes will have their hands full with OSU.

Go Flashes!

The Beavers trip to the MACC is their 1st road game of this season. Kind of an odd non-conference schedule. Wondering if KSU can improve on their shooting % from the field and ratchet up the defensive execution/intensity.

Really nice win. Power 5 game, and at home. Go Flashes!

It was a solid win. The close score was a bit deceiving as Oregon St hit 3 or 4 threes in the last 40 seconds or so. If we can play like this in the MAC we will be fine.

Actually it was one guy who hit FOUR 3’s in the last 30 sec.!

Just got home from my sons game and dinner with the family. We were up double digits with 30 seconds left and won by 1? Yikes.

I don't think we we're ever up double digits. We we're up 5 with 30 seconds to go. I thought we actually closed the game out really well. We had one back court turnover and a couple fouls but we also had a steal in that stretch, handled the pressure well, and hit free throws. Ultimately ended up as close as it was because one guy just started draining ridiculous NBA threes. He hit a running three at the buzzer with us up 4.

In regards to the fouls we had late, it was really frustrating but I'll give the guys a pass on those. Seemed like they were getting the obligatory you're winning and playing defense at the end, that's a foul. In general the refs were really really bad tonight. Really damaged what was otherwise a really exciting well played game. A ton of foul trouble both ways. De La Rosa easily could've had 2 fouls instead of 5.

Fantastic game tonight. Rob and the team fought thru adversity. Poor officiating really hurts when you are depleted due to injury. We can still improve shooting the ball but I like the direction we are heading in

We weren’t depleted. Only Duling didn’t play much and I’m not even sure it was due to injury. The officiating had its moments but let’s face it our bigs foul a lot and probably will the rest of the season. It’s good we have four that can play.

In ADs defense he could've just as easy only had 2 fouls last night. He had some tough whistles go against him. I worry that he's got a reputation at this point so it's going to be really hard for him to cut down on the fouls.

Something that was real frustrating was there was a long stretch in the second half where he and the big guy from OSU we're out there with 3 fouls. We didn't get it to him in the post once during that stretch then eventually they got it to their guy and got a 4th on AD. We should've been working to get their guy his 4th first to make things easier on AD.

Team has potential and next year could be one hell of a year. If i'm Rob I send one of my assistants on the road for A JC recruit or 2 that can shoot the ball. With what we have coming back a shooter or 2 we could be downright lethal next year.

Not giving up on this year its just going to be a season of ups and downs.

Shooter (Tulane transfer) is sitting out with a broken leg, and another (JC) signed already ... personally a big tough combo guard, or a big tough combo forward that can score (not just shoot) would be more in line with how this team seems to operate best....

I agree that a shooter and bigger wing players are needs but I'm not sure we don't already have them signed. As Cleveland noted Ali and Harris answer the shooter need. Ali is still shooting 50% on threes with 108 attempts. As for bigger wing players Harris is pretty well put together at 6'4" 210. Recruiting sites list Gholston at 6'2" but KSU's release when he signed said he's 6'5" so hopefully the truth lies on the higher end. Hopefully maturation of Duling answers your wish for a combo forward.

A big that doesn't foul constantly is another big need. My hope is this one comes just with maturation of what we have in house and Whittington is waiting in the wings. He certainly looks like a player in street clothes. On paper I don't see any major needs on next year's team. Just need guys to develop and live up to expectations. If a scholarship opens up I would guess they look for a transfer. Sendy seems to like having at least one transfer redshirting each year.
