Lots to like about Hayford so far, but loved reading this. Future is very bright at Seattle U.

Striking difference in quotes about program between Hayford and Cameron Dollar. Dollar's comments came a week before he was fired.

Hayford to Seattle Times:
Quote:“We’re in one of the greatest cities in America, we have a great institution and we have great resources, so why not us?” Hayford said about the potential at Seattle U. “I believe in what we can do here.”

Dollar to Seattle Times:
Quote:“We will probably never be a basketball-crazed school.”

So you don’t see this program ever being like a Gonzaga?

“No, Dollar said. “Maybe something like a Saint Mary’s one day.”

OK, so like a tournament regular that borders on the Top 25?

“Well … maybe not Saint Mary’s, they’ve climbed a lot,” Dollar said. “Maybe more like a Belmont. Or, and this is the East Coast in me, something like Davidson before they joined the Atlantic 10.”

The three grad transfers he brought in have been sensational. Surprisingly the two with the lowest stats at prior schools have been the best in Hill and Hearlihy.

Three 3-star transfers sitting the year out and another 3-star incoming freshman signed (former Boise St commit with high major offers), plus WAC POY contender Matej Kavas who is just a sophomore. He's getting a lot out of Means (sophomore) and Nettles (true freshman) who are Dollars guys too. Young roster. I think Hayford has already set Seattle U up with GCU and NMSU as the three elite-WAC programs moving forward.

Great article! Thanks for sharing it. The WAC season is going to be a dogfight. I honestly wish GCU was not playing SU in Seattle to start conference season. We could easily start WAC play at 0-1 if we do not fix our shooting woes. Maybe Majerle should be having his players shoot 200 3-pointers a day like Hayford is.

Ive tempered my expectations for this season and honestly dont expect to beat GCU this year looking at it objectively. Probably finish 3rd or 4th in the WAC this year. But SU can outshoot anybody this season and is lethal from the FT line (3rd in NCAA in FT%). Five players are averaging double figures. The issue is how many 3s are actually going in. SU is tied for 17th most 3's made this year nationally while not in the top 50 for 3pt FG%.

We shall see. Defense has been tough and if SU can't outshoot the opponent, teams like Idaho State and D2 St. Martins can beat them or come very close at least. When the shooting is on, SU can beat teams like Detroit-Mercy by over 30 and only lose to schools like Washington by 4

Seattle U is 6-0 at home but 0-5 on the road (1-0 neutral) but has their toughest home games of the year coming up against Portland and Cal

Seattle should rip Cal apart. Just like Central Arkansas and Chaminade did. Heck, even UC Riverside took them down by 8 and they led Cal by as many as 19.

SU was in it with UW and WSU till the end so vs a team like Cal, at home, SU should be the favorite
