Solution: Blow up ROTC building to make the connection between new addition and endzone seats. Put new ROTC school under end zone seats!

Exactly what I was thinking

Why don't you ask someone who might know the answer to that question, cause it's an interesting one, instead of relying on rank speculation?

Build a dorm in the endzone? Come on we are not that desperate for state money.

Well not exactly Dorm some Educational or academic training facility underneath it will be great and will secure some funding from state. What's wrong with using the facility for Academics when not in use for anything else its not like it will intervene with game day experience.

Exactly. I wish someone from ODU would address why they aren't doing this. Is it not possible? If it is, why aren't we going that route? It seems to make so much sense.

The student section endzone isn't situated near any other part of campus. I like the idea of making the ROTC office there. I think Selig is open to any and all suggestions for funding. I get the impression it's going to have to be private money if it's going to happen quickly, though.

I observed them placing a couple of the pre-cast pieces of the first tower. It looks like adhered brick veneer to me.

Still better than baylor's endzone wall.

According to the ODU football season ticket info I received in the mail today, capacity will be 22,480.

So itd stamped concrete to appear like brick right? That makes a lot of sense.

No, I don’t think it’s stamped concrete. To me it looks like brick veneer, like what was used on the renovation of Waterside. It’s thinner than full-sized bricks, but has the same appearance.

Thats great news. I was worried that we would fall far below the originial Populous design which was 22,130. Now we will be slightly over that at 22,480.

RE: NEW stadium construction - joelwj - 02-26-2019 11:37 AM

Based on previous experience, my guess is that its a product called "thin brick". Which is a veneer brick appearance. It's varies from anywhere in 1/2" to 1" in thickness and is part of the casting process. Anyone that lives in the Hampton Roads Area that has traveled from the Western Freeway or Midtown Tunnel to Portsmouth that has seen the 2 obelisk structures, will get a feel of what the finished product looks like. I was involved in the construction of those, and they are precast concrete with "thin brick" to give the look of real brick.

They are precast and have been used on other buildings around ODU include the new art building which was all prefab construction.

Swear I'm getting nervous watching them stack these slabs on top of each other. Right now they are placing a very tall, thin slab on a very thin slab. Practically nothing holding this thing up. Looks like a solid gust of wind could topple it!

Is this what you are talking about? If so they look like they can hold up to little gusts but we all know how wind can do some darnest things. I see why construction with tight deadlines is a nerve wracking thing. 03-weeping
