I don’t think you’ll see USF in Boca or St Pete. USF beat writer believes USF will go to Military Bowl.

RE: 11/26 bowl projections - correcamino - 11-26-2017 12:29 PM

Man why are we getting left out by some of these guys? I get that we wouldve gotten pummeled by UH, but still shouldn't a 6-win team that only played 11 games get precedence over one that played 12 games?

RE: 11/26 bowl projections - goliath74 - 11-26-2017 01:03 PM

FAU vs. San Diego State? That makes very little sense. FAU vs USF, on the other hand (regardless what bowl they're playing in), makes total sense.

RE: 11/26 bowl projections - SApuro - 11-26-2017 01:04 PM

UAB going to Bahamas opens up FAU and FIU going to Boca and St. Pete.

If a team gets left out in the cold signs point to MTSU or WKU.

Maybe because UTSA has the worst C-USA record out of the bowl eligible teams.

Or maybe they’re wondering who UTSA is...

Maybe, and although it could happen, sources within AAC seem to indicate it won't. The AAC has 3 bowls with "P5" tie ins. There are clearly 3 best teams within AAC which will get those bowls, UCF, Memphis, and USF. UCF/Memphis winner will go to Peach. UCF/Memphis loser will go to either Birmingham or Liberty (still in play for AAC due to SEC not having enough teams), and USF would go to Military.

Navy does not have a direct tie in to Military bowl, they simply fall in the bowl pool with everyone else. Although it makes sense to send Navy here some years, they are basically a .500 team this year (6-5 with Army still to play), so they're not going to jump a 9-2 USF or 10-2 Memphis for this bowl. Maybe if they were within a game of USF in the standings, but not 3-4 games behind. Navy would likely be headed to either Frisco bowl or Hawaii bowl.

Another option still in play for AAC is the Independence bowl, which will need an opponent for ACC, although this one could also go to CUSA.

A lot of these predictions are nothing more than the writers simply throwing darts at a board, without really knowing all the ins and outs of the tie ins.

LOL, yeah I wouldn't be shocked with USF getting the chance to play a CUSA team, it just doesn't seem likely when you look at the tie ins. Unless USF wants to stay home rather than head to Military for example, then you could see a USF/FAU matchup.
