RE: 2018 Football Schedule - GE and MTS - 11-24-2017 08:53 AM

Virginia and Auburn are the only teams I'm chalking up as automatic losses. The rest we should be competitive with. If our new coach can fix our defense while getting our offense more consistent, I like our chances against the rest of the field. I don't think talent is our problem as much as consistency.

Norfolk st W
North Texas W home game
NM L
NMSU L two roads games in NM back to back ugh
Troy L see Army
Idaho State W
Umass L this is a toss up but I'll go with the home team
UVA L but competitive and scares UVA
Auburn L blowout
NMSU W finish strong

5-7

Floor 3-9
Ceiling 7-5

Tons of assumptions in that post, GE. HaHa

I would be content with 5 wins next season. 6 wins would have me tickled. 7 wins? I'd be ecstatic.

Getting five wins in a transition year will be a challenge but we have the weapons on offense.

RE: 2018 Football Schedule - WesternSkillet - 11-24-2017 10:01 AM

Depends on the who will be the head coach in 2018. I'm thinking 3-5 wins.

RE: 2018 Football Schedule - Cider Jim - 11-24-2017 10:44 AM

On next year's schedule, are Norfolk State and Idaho State the only FCS (I-AA) schools?

RE: 2018 Football Schedule - SlyFox - 11-24-2017 11:38 AM

That is correct. ISU is from the top tier FCS Big Sky Conference and we all know NSU from the MEAC based on past matchups.

RE: 2018 Football Schedule - LUbball23 - 11-24-2017 02:13 PM

If we still have Gill, 3 wins. ODU, Norfolk State and Idaho State.

He'll coach us out of wins and our defense will still won't stop the run.

I know, I may have some wishful thinking. But our schedule isn't daunting and going .500 in the G5 match ups isn't out of the question to me. 6-6 is where I tag us based on the assumption Gill is gone.

RE: 2018 Football Schedule - army56mike - 11-27-2017 03:40 AM

That’s still a big assumption, especially as time passes.
6-6 next year would be fantastic.

Beginning in 2021, and moving forward, I have several expectations for it to be considered a good year.....
1) Win at least 8 regular season games
2) Beat your rival
3) Win your bowl game
4) Win your conference/division championship
5) Finish ranked in the Top 25.

Obviously we don’t have access to #2 or 4 yet, and most likely won’t by my start date anyway.

I admire your enthusiasm. If LU was able to have 4-5 wins I would view as an expected win total.

RE: 2018 Football Schedule - SumItUp - 12-02-2017 12:13 PM

Three of LU’s 2018 opponents are playing in conference championship games today.

Auburn (SEC)
North Texas (CUSA)
Troy (Sun Belt)

Also, I'm not underestimating UMass. They are improving throughout the year and some of their L's were very close. UMass 2017.

Holy Smokes!!! Liberty can’t underestimate any team! Look at our history! The only “sure” win is gonna be Norfolk St. I’m not even counting Idaho St. as a sure win even though it should be.

RE: 2018 Football Schedule - GE and MTS - 12-02-2017 09:15 PM

I think Gill lost to Norfolk State early in his tenure if I'm not mistaken.

RE: 2018 Football Schedule - army56mike - 12-03-2017 12:19 AM

I keep flip flopping on our schedule next year. It’s looking tougher and tougher.
6 Bowl teams. Maybe 4 wins is a pretty good season.

I just realized that not only was Troy playing on championship weekend, so was every other team in the Sun Belt. They were one of the top 2 teams in the SB, however.

B - E - A - T

O - D - U !!!

RE: 2018 Football Schedule - Ewglenn - 12-28-2017 10:31 PM

I was looking into NMSU a little bit today and noticed that their QB is a senior.

His stats:

319-512
3825 yds
26 tds 16 ints

I point this out because if he is gone next year I doubt NMSU is going to be playing at the same level next year. That game could look more favorable than I previously thought. I might look to see what other teams we play will lose their big playmakers next year.

You play NMSU twice? That is odd...

Is Liberty bowl eligible in 2018?
