There was a point in the first half today where the official score and scoreboard didn’t match.

Haha. I laughed at the pregame tweet...bc listening to pregame today, I almost posted on here that I was pretty sure the pregame interview was right next to a guy washing dishes

As of yet are we part of any early season tournament next year?

RE: Let's talk about the dumpster fire that is the Cayman Islands Classic - BlazintheATL - 11-22-2017 03:43 PM

We should decline any future invites to early season tournaments. It nearly always leads to disaster.

My wife and I went to the Battle 4 Atlantis a few years ago (we went 0-3 there too) and it really was a trip of a lifetime. The tournament and the venue were bar none the coolest thing I have ever been apart of as a basketball fan.

Glad we skipped this one.

I don't think so. Other than playing Auburn at the BJCC, do we know anything else at all about next year's schedule?

Actually it was being discussed in other threads. They played horrible the first day and the first half of the second day. The second half yesterday and the game today were well played games that we didn't win. Iowa was on fire, even though we played decent defense for much of the game.

Today, we took care of the ball and shot well as a team. There were some very questionable calls and Ehsan got a technical for calling them out on it. With a minute and a half down and us down by three, the Iowa player hooks Lee to get around him and score a basket, plus he got the foul. Iowa pushed it up to six, where we should have had the ball down three.

I know everyone would rather look at the big picture that we lost three games, but there were some bright spots, except for the first day. That day sucked.

That was a killer tournament. We were not expected to win any of those games.

There were multiple times in the last two games that we were down ten points and came back to either go ahead or be within a possession of doing so. The team I saw play on Monday would have folded and given up, but they didn't. Buffalo is a good team who has been in the NCAA tournament last two years, and Iowa is a Big 10 team. We played both well. We should have beaten Richmond and the team was not ready to play that game. But I give the coaches and the team credit for rallying together and getting focused on playing even if it didn't turn out as it should have.

Wisconsin, Florida and UCLA in consecutive days. At tipoff off the Wisconsin game, we had 2nd row seats courtside, I looked at my wife and said "they are a foot taller than us at every position, how the hell are we going to guard them?"

We didn't.

I like to think those Haase whippings ultimate prepared us to make the NCAA tournament. Playing the Magicians and Mississippi College does not. If we don’t play in one of these next year, we need to go on the road against elite programs.

Yep, there were a lot of bright spots. This team has potential. I just don't see glaring weaknesses as with previous teams. The only problem that I see is that Ehsan is relying too heavily on seven guys.(Cokley, Lee, Norton, Darling, Bryant, Perry, and Sullivan). One or more are going to get into early foul trouble against tougher opponents as the season progresses. He is going to have to get a couple of good defensive players in the rotation in addition to those seven to keep them all out of foul trouble for this team to really shine.

Here is a little salt for our wounds.

UAB played three games and lost all three. We lost to Richmond, Buffalo, and Iowa.

Those three teams combined played nine games in the Cayman Islands Classic. They combined for three wins - all against UAB. Neither one of those teams won another damn game.

In other words, we played the weakest teams in the Classic, or at least the weakest this week.

Didn't we show up late to the first game? What's the story there?

RE: Let's talk about the dumpster fire that is the Cayman Islands Classic - KevMo4UAB - 11-22-2017 08:43 PM

UAB’s record in early season, neutral site games since the 2010-2011 season is a pathetic 2-13.

2 of the last 3 I believe. Not to take away from your point, but I believe they went in 15 and 16 and missed last year.
