Tough one here - conference loyalties say pull for hofstra but a loss by clemson could start the nails into Brad's coffin/job there. Oh well go hofstra and hope clemson wins out this season.

CAA went winless today

Elon allowed Milwaukee to rally and lost a winnable road game by 1

UTSA best JMU in the Bahamas

Northeastern fell at Ohio St

Drexel lost in double OT to Drake in the paradise jam 3rd place game

Hofstra dropped the Charleston 3rd place game to auburn by 11

RE: CAA Non Conference 2017 - Seahawk Nation 08 - 11-20-2017 09:51 AM

JMU continuing their trend of poor non-conference play, I see. Last year they went 1-11 in the non-conference against D-I teams.

The league is 12-20 against D-I in non-conference thus far, but still ranks 13th among conferences. Everyone in the league other than JMU has at least one of those 12 wins.

RE: CAA Non Conference 2017 - solohawks - 11-20-2017 10:59 PM

Delaware dropped a game to UNCG 79 - 66 in Greensboro. They were leading at half. 2 (D1) game losing streak for the Blue Hens after their big season opening win at Richmond. Still haven't played a D1 team at home

Towson beat Florida Atlantic by 24 in the Gulf Coast Showcase in Florida. Play Penn tomorrow in the winners bracket

RE: CAA Non Conference 2017 - solohawks - 11-21-2017 09:39 PM

Towson beat Penn tonight in Florida tournament semifinals. Play Georgia southern tomorrow in the finals

RE: CAA Non Conference 2017 - Seahawk Nation 08 - 11-22-2017 01:25 AM

Other CAA teams in action tomorrow on a busy day:

Delaware vs Longwood (tournament @ UNCG) -- 3 PM
Elon vs Radford -- 4 PM
Charleston vs. Cal Poly (Great Alaska Shootout) -- 4 PM
JMU vs. App St -- 7 PM

RE: CAA Non Conference 2017 - sctvman - 11-22-2017 05:54 PM

Delaware escapes Longwood. Bad loss for CofC. Lost to Cal Poly, allowed 14 3 pointers. Harris didn’t score any points, Riller got banged up in the 2nd half.

RE: CAA Non Conference 2017 - solohawks - 11-22-2017 06:56 PM

JMU beat App!

Really love the pace we are playing. Talley is exceeding my expectations. Fornes and Taylor will be great for us. I think Cacok will start hitting his jumper eventually and he has certainly developed some new moves under the basket. Haven't seen enough of the other guys to form an opinion yet.

The last three meetings between them went overtime, with two out of three including yesterday needing double overtime.

College of Charleston vs. Sam Houston State at 9:30 P.M. from Alaska is the only CAA game today.

In a small sample, Towson looks like the class of the league thus far. Their wins over 4-3 Penn and a 4-2 Georgia Southern to take the tournament in Florida last week was very nice. Towson has 3 guys (Zane Martin, Mike Morsell, Brian Starr) averaging double digit scoring, they're shooting nearly 40 % from 3 as a team, and they're rebounding like crazy (253-207 edge on opponents).

They've got another tough matchup with La Salle coming up on December 1, so we'll see if they build on their early success.

The rest of the league looks very "meh" right now. But I'd be very surprised if Charleston finishes any lower than 2nd.

RE: CAA Non Conference 2017 - solohawks - 11-27-2017 03:14 PM

The CAA record still has a losing record against D1 competition at 20-29. 1 loss Towson has 5 D1 non conference games less. I would think they will need to win them all plus make a dominant CAA run to have a chance at an at large.

RE: CAA Non Conference 2017 - dan10 - 11-27-2017 03:24 PM

There is no at large this season. Not sure anyone really thought there was a chance. CofC missing a top player for their OOC schedule doesnt give the conference a good look either.

Based on rankings and some of the scores, CAA play should be fun. Not much defense to go around.

Yeah, I don't think anyone expected an at large this year if they know much about the conference. Actually, since the conference shuffles it seems less and less likely this conference will see too many more at large bids. If we ever do, they will be extremely rare IMO.

I think the conference will get back there it just takes time. I can see the conference getting back to an at large every other season or every 3 seasons like we were before. I dont think we are that far away from getting there. With so many coaching changes and program shifts since the shuffle it has been tough. I think many are settling down in what appear to be good hires which only bodes well for a strengthened conference. For new regimes it takes 3-4 years though and in the next 1-2 years I think our conference will be strong again.

UNCW is sitting good with a strong future
CofC is strong and will get stronger
Towson is strong and staying strong
Delaware is getting stronger and is a year or 2 away from something sustainable
Drexel is moving in a good direction and is probably 2 years away from a sustainable level
Elon is getting stronger and have solidified their position
W&M is where they have been which is up and down
JMU is still an unknown if they are headed in the right direction or not
NU is still a good program and will continue to be under Coen
Hofstra will continue being up and down

I agree with all of those. The WM one sticks out to me the most. I think they're in a tough situation this year with the unexpected departure of Jack Whitman after last season. They have some young players, but that's a big, experienced hole to fill for them this year.

I feel bad for CofC missing their best player for a significant portion of the season. They're still a very strong, tough team though.

I'm extremely interested in the post-Bruiser Drexel and how it develops. Good luck with that Dan!

I was impressed with Delaware's early season win over Richmond. And then Richmond turned into the mid-major version of this year's Arizona. Not good. Hopefully the Blue Hens can still grow off of that victory regardless of how it looks on paper now.
