I am actually pretty surprised Miami didn't pass us with their win over Va Tech, giving them a quality win. They did pass Wiscy.

RE: Latest CFP Poll - otown - 11-07-2017 07:44 PM

Can't say that I disagree with the top 4...... at this time. A lot is gonna change next week.

RE: Latest CFP Poll - RUScarlets - 11-07-2017 08:04 PM

Auburn probably controls its own destiny with two UGa wins and a Bama win, that would be something.

RE: Latest CFP Poll - stever20 - 11-07-2017 08:12 PM

How the NY6 bowls would look...
Sugar- Georgia vs Clemson
Rose- Alabama vs Notre Dame
Orange- Miami vs Auburn
Peach- UCF vs TCU
Cotton- Oklahoma vs USC
Fiesta- Washington vs Wisconsin

as far as the ratings- a bit surprised just how far Ohio St and Penn St fell.

RE: Latest CFP Poll - IWokeUpLikeThis - 11-07-2017 08:47 PM

Love these rankings. 1-15 is exactly what I have spot for spot (I have UCF at 16). Massive points for not ranking Michigan.

Strong A thru 2 weeks.

RE: Latest CFP Poll - stever20 - 11-07-2017 09:54 PM

saw this-
Five of the six teams ranked in Top 2 of second rankings release went on to reach playoff (No. 1 Mississippi State in 2014 is only exception).

RE: Latest CFP Poll - tcufrog86 - 11-07-2017 09:58 PM

I suspect that the TCU vs. Oklahoma winner will jump Clemson in next week's poll. Will be interesting to see if Miami jumps all the way in to the top 4 if they beat Notre Dame.

The Big 10 and PAC are the ones in a precarious position. It seems to me the committee wanted a Big 12 representative as next in and so they positioned OU and TCU together until this weeks game is over.

The question in my mind is how high does Miami jump if they beat Notre Dame this weekend?

You have to have them get into the top 4 if they win. It would be a travesty otherwise.......... but I feel they are actually gonna get exposed and get their butts handed to them.

RE: Latest CFP Poll - stever20 - 11-07-2017 10:21 PM

My hunch JRsec is Miami goes up to 3rd if they win. with the other 2 undefeated teams.

The 1 thing that I find interesting looking at this is USC lurking at #11. Assuming say Miami, and Auburn both lose this weekend, along with Michigan St- you might see something like(assuming Oklahoma beats TCU- but really meaningless as same place either way)
1 Georgia, 2 Alabama, 3 Notre Dame, 4 Clemson, 5 Oklahoma, 6 Wisconsin, 7 Washington. And USC all of a sudden up to #8. And Ohio St might be up to #9.

ND has played or will play a lot of these schools this season.

RE: Latest CFP Poll - Soobahk40050 - 11-08-2017 12:00 AM

Will Georgia/Alabama loser be fourth setting up a rematch or be third to avoid that?

Will committee allow a GA-ND rematch as a semi?

RE: Latest CFP Poll - stever20 - 11-08-2017 12:06 AM

To me for Notre Dame the most dangerous game is not this weekend. I think it's actually next weekend vs Navy. You talk about a trap game- coming off a 3 in 4 week stretch vs USC, NC State, and Miami- and followed up by Stanford.

RE: Latest CFP Poll - Frog in the Kitchen Sink - 11-08-2017 12:31 AM

One question I would have for the committee is their "top 25 wins" emphasis. It's one thing to draw a line between 4/5, when you are ranking teams that have separated themselves at the leading tale of the bell curve. It's another to draw one at 25. IMO, it's tough to tell the difference between teams once you get out of the top 10-15 or so- teams become fairly clustered in terms of quality. But if you limit quality wins to teams ranked 25, suddenly that line becomes huge. Is a win over #25 really a "quality win" when a win over a team that is "26" is worthless? I feel like the "top 25 wins" emphasis can be a bit misleading.

RE: Latest CFP Poll - Wedge - 11-08-2017 02:08 AM

Besides TCU-OU and ND-Miami, there's Georgia-Auburn, Alabama-Miss St, Iowa-Wisconsin, and Washington-Stanford this weekend.

Don't count your chickens, etc., etc.

If Miami beats Notre Dame I think you will be correct about their placement. Besides, the committee won't care because Miami / Clemson would then decided in the ACC CCG.

The biggest trick to get the committee off of the hook this year would be for Auburn to beat Georgia and for Alabama to beat Auburn and Georgia.

If that happens Alabama will stay #1. Notre Dame would likely move up to #2. Clemson would climb to #3, and #4 would be OU/T.C.U./Wisconsin depending upon how things play out. Oklahoma could beat T.C.U. and face them again in a couple of weeks and lose which would open the door for Wisconsin should they win out. And heck if Wisconsin drops one to Iowa, or suffers a bad loss in the CCG, then Washington could slide in. Any way you look at it the committee gets a break. If Miami beats Clemson and Notre Dame then their in and it's Bama, da U, and one of the others listed above.

Only one thing screws up the committee. Georgia winning out and Alabama winning out and then the two of them playing a good, but extremely close game. Eliminate that possibility and they all dodge a bullet and get an acceptable outcome.

It'll be interesting.

ND has played or will play a lot of these schools this season.

The CFP seems to be making it pretty clear that if ND wins out, they will make the playoffs, there will be no penalty for lack of a "13th data point". They are keeping ND opponents in the rankings even as ND beats them.

Yes, it's been a very strong schedule this year for the Irish.

That whole "13th data point" stuff is a bunch of hooey. Would Notre Dame be considered more worthy if they had scheduled a game at Hawaii for a 13th data point?
